I can't for the life of me figure out what I may be missing to make a poll, but I'll wing it - I really want to know what people think about this as I am going to make a purchase in america soon and I can't decide!

If you were to buy only one perfume, would you pick:

A) the one that everyone else loves and compliments

or
B) the one that you love so much you want to bathe in it

i would probably go with A because other people are always going to be subjected to whatever scent you're wearing---they may as well like it! For instance, my grandmother LOVES a certain perfume but it drives everyone else in my family NUTS because it's so strong and offensive smelling. If people just prefer option A but don't mind option B, then go with B. Just my 2 cents, as a person who has been tortured by someone elses perfume for years!

I'd pick B and go on my merry way, even if I knew it wasn't to many people's tastes :halo:

Well, so long as FI likes it!

I'd pick B, get a large bottle, and enjoy it (as long as DH likes the fragrance, as yssie said). I love my current fragrance so much I even spray a little on my sheets and towels!

But I'd also keep a small bottle of A around, because if people compliment you on it, it must be a good match for your body chemistry.

B

Well, it's your money so I would get what you like as long as your SO doesn't hate it, that would be a bummer for him to not like how you smell.

Perfume A is about $50 an ounce and every time I wear it someone says I smell good. My husband likes it.

Perfume B is about $225 an ounce and every time I wear it I cannot stop smelling myself. A couple people have liked it, a couple people have hated it, and my husband likes it though I think he prefers A and B is unisex so sometimes I have him wear it and I really like that too!!

I should just buy both I guess lol I am for sure buying A but my bottle of B was stolen from my hotel just prior to moving to China and there was only a little bit left. I miss it though - yearn to smell it again. But it's more than $200 bucks!!!! lol It's a longing though - but it is a controversial scent...

B) the one that you love so much you want to bathe in it

If I know a specific person doesn't like a brand of perfume I wear (such as at work) I'll just wear a different one.

C) any kind that doesn't smell like pesticide. :knockout:

I have a question that might influence my answer. What % of time will you be spending a) alone and b) with people? In your situation I can see how having a fragrance that might make strangers come up and introduce themselves or be a "conversation piece" might be more beneficial than something you just enjoy yourself.

But getting *both* seems like a valid option too -- if the first is just $50.

Me too. :rodent:

B) Buy what you like.

B.

I'm a narcissist.

I never thought about both men and women wearing the same fragrance, but why not.
They are marketed so separately.

How can a scent be controversial?
May I ask the name of it?
You got me curious.

It would be B because its all about me, right? Really, when I wear a purfume its about how it makes me
feel. If I like how it smells then it makes me feel good and I think that in turn makes me be a happier
person (which I'm sure other people appreciate).

I like getting compliments on the way I smell but if I'm not feeling it...I just dont think I could keep on
wearing it.

Kenny - my new boyfriend (yikes--did I just say that?!?) wears Bond No. 9, which is unisex. It is FABULOUS.

B - No one is going to smell you as much as you smell yourself.

It's a Bond No.9 fragrance called New Haarlem... it's main scents are coffee, vanilla, and sandalwood. I had one frenemy gag and say it was horrible - I don't value her opinion though lol It is a little bit hippie and a lot yummy - but definitely weird. I could smell it all day - I love the initial smell, the secondary scent, and the lingering aroma... I just love the stuff but it's really weird in the world of perfume. I bought it Christmas 08 and it was about 4/5 gone when it was stolen Christmas 09. Prior to its theft (just a week prior) I purchased Scent of Peace by Bond No.9 - the woman sold me on it and I regret purchasing it. I wanted to get Central Park by BN9. It's another odd choice - bergamot and patchouli lol But I love that too! They really fit me. But I don't want to buy more than one so I'd rather get another New Haarlem...

The other Fragrance (A) is Poeme by Lancome. I like it but I don't want to get high off of it the way I do the New Haarlem. But every time I wear Poeme *someone* says how fantastic I smell. It is obviously a popular choice on me to everyone else.

I will just have to get both lol

OH - and DECO - I don't know the answer to your question about how often I'll be around others - daily in some ways. But a lot of them are Chinese and I have no clue whether they think any of this stuff smells good. I know my ayi loves the scent of peace - I gave her a couple samples of it and she's hinted she wants more, I've created a monster! lol I have some samples of Chinatown that I thought would be fun to wear here but the smell is nothing like the real china lol

Dee*Jay's got a boy friend, Dee*Jay's got a boy friend... hehehe... yeah you said it :)

So which one does he wear? Because I'm talking the Bond9 too! BTW I love the sak's fifth avenue scent too.

Oh and Kenny - it's not controversial in a traditional sense like ingredients - it's controversial in that the scent is pretty far out in left field.

LOL Sara!!! (Yes, I said it... Ack!)

I don't know which specific one he wears, but I'll ask.

Have you ever tried Angel? I've been wearing that for 18 years now (wow... I feel OLD!) and I have not found ANYTHING I like as much in all that time.

B

oooh, that sounds like something I'd wear! My favorites are Trouble, Code, and Amour. I also like Creed's White In Love on occasion.

I would definitely go for B.

You sound like a cat on catnip!

Definetly get the one you love - it seems to make you soooo happy. Just don't put a lot of it on if you are going to be around people who dislike it.

I have never tried Angel or any of the others mentioned... I love perfume and I love having the right perfume, but I hate trying on perfume. All the sales people want to do is make a sale - they don't tend to appreciate the need to spray 6 fragrances around your arms and going away for an hour. The Bond lady did the first time though and my two girlfriends with me both preferred scent of peace and I outvoted them because I loved the new haarlem so much... when I went back last christmas I felt like I was coerced into buying scent of peace and it's okay. I don't love it. I mostly wear it because I spent so much on it. I think it doesn't suit my personality. I am not feminine nor flowery lol Central Park (bergamot and patchouli) and New Haarlem (coffee, vanilla, sandalwood) fit my quirky inner flower child lol

So DeeJay - is it "The Pool Guy"? :naughty:

I would definitely choose B. Plus then I would know that all the people with good taste would compliment me ;))

I would pick B (as long as DH likes it). I am very sensitive to fragrances and there are very few that I can wear that won't give me a headache.

Your description of B sounds absolutely delicious...yummmmm! I have never smelled A, so when I am at a store again I'm gonna go find it because I am very curious now!
