Preowned settings thread

I thought it was worth a shot to start this thread. I’m always on the lookout for a preowned setting for my colored stones and I have had some good luck.

I typically scout eBay and Etsy for used rings that have ugly stones in them. Sometimes the diamond melee is quite nice. There are some examples in my other thread.

I often come across some that won’t work for me but maybe someone else would like it. I have found that there are quite a few that fit 7x5 or 8x6 stones but not as many round ones. I prefer yellow gold so most of my finds date back to the 80’s - 90’s.

So here’s a thread for sharing leads as we come across something that could work.

I will start with this one. It’s huge and 10g of gold with approx 11mm round stone. Unfortunately I don’t have any stones to fit.

The cabbage ring reminds me of one that I have where I replaced an opal with a Mali garnet. The opal just wasn’t my style and I wear the new ring all the time. DK did this swap and it was very affordable. Using my local jeweler most swaps cost me between $50-200 depending on prong work needed.

I love this idea of having a thread! I do this all the time. I like low settings, so modern ones often don’t work for me. This ring will become a pendant.

Here is my current project. My new to me pad, and the Victorian Cluster setting I bought, and the inspiration.

Here is another one. I just picked up my ring today with this same setting! Mine had a tiny side stone but they are otherwise the same. It holds a 7mm stone.

Here’s mine:

I found this one and I don’t wear white gold so maybe someone else can use it for a stone they need to set.

Looks nice and it’s got a good weight with nice diamonds. And free returns!

In case this is someone’s style, this is a great price for the 5g weight. It would probably fit a larger stone.

This thread isn’t just for me - feel free to post settings you find and think might work for all of our unset stones that are sitting in their gem boxes feeling neglected.

I get a lot of help here so I’m giving back! And if someone finds something then all this time I spend on ebay won’t be wasted. It is kind of like finding a needle in a haystack but it’s the only way I can afford to set all of my stones.
