Preloved Diamond Opinions

Hello,

I would like some thoughts on the diamond at the link below. I'm considering purchasing it to use in an engagement ring either as a solitaire or a halo but have some reservations. Can anyone give me some insight on whether this is a good diamond or whether there are better options I should consider for a similar price.

I realize this is a broad question but appreciate any insight I receive.

Thanks

Well, that is a low price for a diamond of that size, probably half of retail. Maybe that is reasonable on the second hand market and it does include the setting. It has an EGL certificate, though, which likely means its specs are actually lower than I Si1. No mention of whether the seller will accept returns either.

Since this shipper is in the UK it will not be possible for you to have it checked by your favorite local gemologist prior to accepting the EGL report as any where in the neighborhood of being correct.

If you are in the UK and can have it checked prior to exchanging currency for the diamond then I can suggest that you may be able to evaluate the diamond and the price.

If you are in the United States and have to pay shipping to see it, and then not be able to return it if you do not like it, then you will have to decide whether or not that you wish to gamble.

I agree. If you're in the U.S., this is a big gamble. You'd have to be okay with the stone actually being a J or a K and an SI2 or even an I1 in which case the price is not a good deal anymore. And returning it would be impossible at the worst and expensive and time-consuming at the best because you'd have to ship it back internationally while having your money tied up and unable to buy anything else in the interim. I wouldn't recommend gambling like that on an engagement ring.

Based on the responses it sounds like it's more risk and possibly more work than I really want, but I do love a deal and don't mind preloved. I'm in the USA and I'm thinking it is a private seller so there probably isn't a return policy. I'll have to find a jeweler in the UK to confirm the diamond to even consider this purchase. I'll reach out to the seller and get some information.

I also noticed it was listed by the same seller on LT 3 years ago.

Please stick with GIA or AGS graded diamonds only. You can easily overpay when you think you are getting a "good deal" when the grading report is inaccurate. An SI1 clarity grade is maybe SI2-I1. I wouldn't even consider this.
