I would like to ask your preliminary opinions on this stone. I am waiting on the rest of the numbers, but have a GIA cert. The following is gleaned from there:

Round Brilliant

6.26-6.28 x3.68mm

.90
Depth: 58.7%

Table: 59%

Girdle: medium to slightly thick, faceted

Culet: small

Polish: excellent

Symmetry: very good

Clarity Grade: VVS1

Characteristics: pinpoint

Color: G

Fluorescence: none

Price: $4869.00

I have been lurking here for awhile and really appreciate all your
input, suggestions and comments to everyone. You guys are great. I would like to send this off to Mr. Atlas for a second opinion if I really like the stone. I haven''t seen it yet, but early next week.

I will post follow up numbers as I get them.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

e.g.h.

Matt

Hmm okay..well you probably already know this but you are paying through the nose for the VVS1 grading. G color is excellent IMO for a stone, but why VVS1? Drop that down to VS if you feel the need for some clarity comfort, it will look the same to your naked eye but be much cheaper.

Then you can spend the money you saved on upping that cut quality. You do need more information but here is what I personally don't like about this stone:

-The table is larger than the depth. This does not mean it won't be beautiful, but it's certainly not ideal, I am not sure what your priorities are, but personally I would aim for better numbers AND a good looking stone in person.

-The polish and symm are not EX EX. Why settle for VG EX? I know it's splitting hairs but you are spending almost $5k here. Make your money work for you.

Again, you do need more info..but just from looking at the numbers, I personally wouldn't continue to consider this stone. You are spending a good amount of money, I don't think you need to cut corners. I think you can have everything you would want for the stone, and still keep a great clarity, size and G color. Up that cut quality!

Personally I like this stone. It's about $200 more and VS2 but the cut looks stellar and it's a tiny big larger!

That's a colorless, transparent piece of cristal with a roughly round outline that you describe. If this sounds good, no reason to pass.

It takes some special manufacturing process to actually make that piece o mineral behave like a prism - unfortunately, the details you give are insufficient to guess whether this was applied successfully to the particular item.

Mara,

Thanks for the information. I was kinda leaning this way, but am still too new to understand everything about proportions, clarity and how to get the most bang for my buck.

mrlink..take your time in the research stage, so you will not regret it later. 'Search' for almost any topic, most likely it has been asked and answered before! if you still have questions, please do post, people are eager to help someone make a smart decision. above all, don't let anyone force or rush you into a purchase before you feel entirely comfortable that you know it is the best for your buck. good luck!

To put it bluntly, there is a premium on eitehr cut or clarity, but between precise cutting (proportions, finish and all) and the IF grade, the cut will show, not the clarity grade. It may be that internally flawless diamonds are rarer than VSs, but there are plenty listed every time.

It is perfectly possible that the stone you have listed the first time be a real charmer - lots of no-ideal proportions do the trick, but it is hard to identify such stones with only tge GIA stats to go by.

Anyway, here's the piece that reminded me your post... 0.93cts, F-VS2 (FIC)
