Preliminary CAD''s from Michael E

My opinion only: I LOVE the new design, with the enclosed sides too. I love the sleekness of the curved metal. Yummy!

The latest one with the more open split shank is much better; it flows well and looks more delicate and feminine. Are you going to open up the rails? I prefer Megeve’s version where you can see the pavilion of the stone.

packrat, just some thoughts: Have you asked/talked to Michael to do a cad with the rails shorten, the stones more exposed and an extra band underneath the stones? My ring is only with 1 stone but with 3 stones whether its doable! Michael should be able to tell you and if its doable to do a cad to show you how it will look like. If you have read my thread, this pink tourmaline does not hold its color in all lighting, its mostly dark but with this open/exposed sides it is able to hold its color in all lightings and not going dark in certain lighting as it did when it was loose. It gets lots of light from all sides. Just that you get an idea, the bands holding the stone are about 2.5mm and the height/depth is also 2.5mm, the extra band underneath is 2.5mm but 2.0mm depth only. So you do not see alot of metal from all sides. I hope this helps you in your decision making! Give a shout if you need more information.

I like both designs and think the openness of Megeve''s is nice, but also really like how clean the swoopy metal looks.

I also would split the rails in half (like Megeve''s ring). Even with the swoop and allowing for the CAD adding bulk, the sides are a little too solid looking. My only reservation with this is that it looks like the central stone is sitting in an enclosed basket. If it is, that would mean it would be visible through the split. In some ways it would be interesting because you''d see the yellow gold, but I wonder how it would look like either side?

Thanks everyone! Yep, I did email Michael last night and ask about shortening the rails up and adding a band underneath. I was going to send along Megeve''s picture and totally spaced it off. (London and I are both sick-she''s got strep and I think I''m in the process, so I was sooo not functioning last night!)

Thanks for the info Megeve! I really like the openness of it. I think it will end up a combo of Kismet''s and Megeve''s ring.

I''m not usually a fan of YG, but with the stones, it''s so much warmer and seems more alive than the WG. Either way, it''ll look amazing though!

No. I sent the stones to Michael in July and then we ran into some financial issues so I just got them back last week. I hated to do it. Like, stomach down in the feet, heart in the throat hated to do it, but we talked about it and I decided to take a page from AJ's book and the money we do manage to scrape together, get a couple more stones first before deciding on setting them.
