Hi Everyone,
Oh decisions decisions! I don’t know what to do and am in need of advice.
I am new to PS and enjoy so much looking at all your gorgeous rings but it seems the more I read the less I know (if that makes sense!).
I’m looking for a new engagement ring. I currently have a vintage 1930’s 1.8ct VS1/G 3 stone platinum ring with a centre stone of approx.80ct. When I wear it (which is hardly ever, more on that in a bit) it’s with my 2mm plain platinum wedding band. My fingers are quite short so don’t have a huge gap underneath my knuckle. Plus my ER has a super narrow shank so the thin wedding band suited it best. Any diamond set wedding bands seemed to not compliment my ER as the stones were much brighter and more sparkly but I’m guessing that’s down to the old cut diamonds in the ER.
So....... fast forward 7 years and I have 2 yr old twins and a much clearer understanding of what “busy” actually means! My hands take a lot of wear and tear on a daily basis and for this reason I hardly ever wear my ER. I have previously had to have a couple of the prongs re-tipped (I think that’s the right terminology) and it had to be sent off to a specialist in antique jewellery to do this. So I was without it for a few weeks and it cost quite a lot to do this repair. Essentially much as I love(d) my ER, if I was doing it all again I wouldn’t have chosen it. For this reason I’m very seriously contemplating a new engagement ring that I can wear much more often and layer with a diamond eternity ring. I particularly like the Tiffany Embrace .27ct eternity so I thought the Tiffany solitaire might be a perfect companion. My budget restricts me to pre loved Tiffany and I’ve found the following rings:-
Ring 1 = 0.71/VVS1/G
62.2 depth/55 table/34.7 crown/40.9 pavilion.
HCA 1.7 $4600
Ring 2 = 0.72/VS1/G
61.9/56/35/40.8
HCA 1.6 $4700
Or a bridal set which has the solitaire and embrace eternity together:-
0.5/VVSI/I
60.1/58/34.1/40.6
HCA 0.7 $4500 for set.
Am thinking 0.5ct might be a little on small side.
The other option is that I could look for a loose diamond (possibly an ACA from Whiteflash) and chose a Ritani Halo setting. I particularly like their French Set halo setting. I know this is a very different style to the Tiffany solitaire but it’s so pretty!
(I had thought of a modest Tiffany Soleste but as I’d be buying on-line a cushion cut seems too risky with my very novice knowledge so have discounted).
Do you think the Ritani Halo would stand up to day to day family life or would I end up saving it for “best”? I’d hate to lose a melee stone.
Would the Embrace eternity compliment this setting? I don’t like it when the rings “fight” against each other.
Am I better to stick to a simple solitaire with eternity ring?
Aarrgghh questions questions!
My Hubby, bless him is no help on this, he’s happy for me to find what I like so I can’t bounce any ideas off him.
Thank you for reading and apologies for what’s become a long (and probably rambling) post but as you can probably tell I could do with some help & guidance.
