Alright folks, I think this may be the one, after seeing a few L's in person and liking the slight blue fluoresense... This would be coming from Yuki at IDJ... I am still waiting on pics of the diamond in raw form but thought ide throw up the idealscope and GIA report to see what all the enthusiasts here have to say!

It will be going in a Leon Mege four prong solitaire (single prongs)

oh i like it. I like the idea of going to an L and have nice clarity.

Thanks Niel! I was afraid of going past a J or K however the spread on this looks great for the price, hopefully all looks good from the images tomorrow and I will be post up the end result as soon as I can.
Yuketiel approves and says it is a beautiful stone in person. More pics coming soon!

oh thats great! You might have to get it home just to make sure you're comfortable with the color, but seems worth it. Any chance youd have leon do the setting in gold or rose gold?

Probably not as she is pretty much a platinum/silver kind of girl.. I have never seen her where Gold. The ring is going to be very delicate however. I know some people have stated that the strong blue looks better on darker color rings, but from everything ive seen it looks just fine on platinum as long as the stone is not swallowed by the setting.

Strong blue does help. An do you plan on having him do a Tiffany repro? Because i agree setting it in 6 prongs or something so theres lots of white metal around it does help the color

The details of the setting are still in the works, ill post pics as soon as I have them!

Nice choice. I like modern H&A rounds in L/M color range. They aren't going to scream "Yellow." The H&A cut washes tint considerably in most situations, while the chunky antique facets and deep stones concentrate it. That diamond you are looking at is closer to a 60/60 make, and that ought to give it a lot of brilliance. I have an L or M (was an M before the recut and was not re-graded afterward but looks paler now), and it can look really white in natural daylight. But some fluorescent lighting, like at Dollar General, make it face up in the candlelight ivory range. Mine has no fluor. I just mention that because the K/L/M range are a bit chameleon that way, looking a bit different in certain lighting than in others. If my M were the only diamond I owned, I would still be very happy with it and it's color changes. :-)

Your diamond will look great in white metals. But if you are considering yellow or rose gold, be sure to look at the diamond sitting in that color of mounting before you finalize the decision. Some stones (starting around the J range, imo) have a slight brown or slight green tint or maybe even gray, and it helps to line up the three colors of metal (WG or plat, YG, RG) and see what actually is the most flattering to that particular diamond.
^ I know that seems nit-picky, but I ran into that problem with a J that looks best in YG or RG. My M looks great in white metals, and a bit brown in YG. Kind of the opposite of what I expected, so that's why I said test it first.

Thanks! Im seeing if IDJ can send some over of it sitting in a platinum setting just to be sure but im fairly certain it will look up to par. She loves blue fluorescence and I think it will be a great combination, but hey you never know, maybe ill be screwed and she'll want something else! :-)

Diamonds by Lauren usually has quite of few diamonds of L / M color on their web site. You might take a look there, just to get an idea of what that color looks like.

Just fyi, I was at IDJ last week deciding on a stone from IDJ and one with strong fluorescence from another vendor. Yeku was adamant that I should NOT purchase the strong blue fluor. He said if I was, I should get at least 20% off the price.

I am quoted at 5800.00 for the one above. I wonder why he was advising against strong blue? Its a matter of preference in my opinion, maybe you were looking at a gold ring? From what ive seen strong blue looks horrible in gold... although this contradicts what many think on this..

Maybe the one with SBF the PP was looking st had negative effects.

Perhaps the stone with strong blue I was looking at was from another vendor. Even Yeku's mom said not to buy strong blue.
I called another vendor and he said his upgrade policy does not include stones with strong blue because most people tend to avoid them. As a matter of fact, I loved the stone with the strong blue but it was a G.
After spending 3 days on W47th St. talking to many vendors,I strongly believe that people will say anything to make a sale, including IDJ. One vendor claimed he hadn't heard of HCA when asked and tried to belittle me. I am glad I read this forum before I ventured out. So if you like it, buy the stone.
BTW, I bought my stone(no fluor) from IDJ.

It is pretty much a done deal at this point, I just need to complete the payment and I will start a new thread after I receive some pics of the final product!

Great this will be so lovely!!!!

This is so true and even though I like and would recommend IDJ to anyone who needs a jeweler you still need to be educated enough not to be swayed by those tactics.

The stone looks gorgeous. It looks very white in that setting. Assuming that you are not buying the setting from IDJ, what are you thinking of?

Is that your ring?! I thought it wasnt set yet

Yep, thats it! Yekutiel at IDJ is FAST... He set the stone and had the ring fixed up the same day the setting was received (it was 2nd hand from another pricescoper that had it for sale on loupetroop). I just wired the money this afternoon and should have the ring early this coming week!

That is the setting (its completed). I purchased the setting 2nd hand from another forum member that had it listed on loupetroop, and the diamond was purchased from IDJ. They received the setting today (it had a small dent and some surface scratches), but they had it buffed out and fixed to practically new, set the stone and everything all in one day... The video above is the finished product.

Hope you all like it, I think it looks amazing.

thats honestly amazing! looks so white and stunning! no one would guess you payed what you did for that ring! I remember that setting on LT. It was what like 800? thats looks like a 10k ring!

Thanks Niel! Yes the ring was for sale for a while on LT for 800 but I ended up buying it for 650. I paid 5900 for the diamond at IDJ and that included them fixing the setting up for me as it did have some knicks and scratches, setting the diamond, and shipping it to me here in Nashville. Total at the end of the day for the ring and everything shipped to me ill have spent 6550.00. I think I have somehow managed to pull this all off with the help of yourself and everyone else's good advice here, and got a great deal as well!

650 in platinum?! couldnt have done better! This is honestly fantastic, shes going to be blown away!!

BAh im so happy for you cant wait to see hand shots. I assume they made it to fit her finger too

WOW!!! :appl: :appl:

It is mind blowing what doing some good research about diamonds, and some good scouring for bargains can get you!
If anyone in the "real world" saw that ring, they would think you are a big fat liar if you told them what this cost you!

For an "emotional" purchase, you did AMAZING! I commend you on your "cool" approach to the bling hunt. Can't wait to see this ring on her finger! Please do come back with pics of hand shots!
