Possible to Remove Diamond from Bezel Setting?

Hello,

I'm a long time Pricescope lurker and this is my first post! I currently have a 1 carat stone set in a halo pendant. I want to remove the stone from the pendant and use it in a ring setting but have been told by a jeweler that there is a good chance doing so will damage the diamond, since there is a bezel around the stone. Is this true at all?

Saw or sand off the bezel. It's 100% destructive to the mounting but the diamond is not at increased risk unless it's already damaged. If you're worried, make sure you have an insurance policy in force to start with (which is a good idea anyway). If the jeweler isn't comfortable with the job, hire someone else who is.
