Possible to find a perfect round OEC?

Are all OEC diamonds slightly off round? I am looking for a specific size - I know, I am probably asking for the impossible. I need to find a 6mm OEC as it's got to fit the setting I have and I want to bezel it.

Is this possible?

That's beautiful but unfortunately out of my budget. I'm trying to stay under $2000. I know it's not a great budget but you never know when you might find a bargain

Maisie,

Even in a bezel there is room for slight variations. If, for example, you had a diamond that varied from 5.98 to 6.02 that would easily fit into a 6mm bezel. Now, if it went from 5.85 to 6.15 it would be much harder to make it work...

Hi Wink,

That's good to know. Now I just need to find the best diamond I can find for my little budget :))

In that case you should call Niel she is the queen of ebay hunting I swear. You are looking for a symmetrical bargain on there.

What does the setting look like do you have a picture? Will the bezel need rebuilding because if it does then you can put a slightly smaller or bigger or not uniform Old Cut in there anyway.

This is the setting. The prongs will be removed and a bezel put in. BGD said they would prefer the diamond to be as round as possible. I can see why as the setting wasn't made for a bezel.

That's the diamond I want but they said it won't fit :((

Well that sucks because it is in budget. Can they prong set it instead of a bezel?

I think it would be too small. There would be an airline which I don't really like for me. I'd really prefer a bezel. I certainly know how to make my life more difficult lol!

That one is ~5.95mm length but it won't fit... so when you say that you need a 6mm stone do you mean 6mm = stone + bezel, so stone itself probably closer to 5mm? Or did they mean that the difference between length and width is too much for the bezel to compensate for?

0.76ct $2295 5.47x5.44mm - great vendor

It's the length and width that won't fit. The stone in the ring is 6.5mm. They said I would need a round stone measuring between 6 and 6.3mm for the bezel. I don't know how wide the bezel would be.

Ah, k. The one above would be too small then.
I'd recommend contacting that vendor and seeing if they have anything that might work - they're great to work with for these sorts of projects and their prices are extremely reasonable!

Thanks. I will do that. I'm a bit out of my depth with OEC's. I'm used to buying RB signature diamonds where you don't have to know too much technical stuff!

Does it have to be an OEC? You will have better luck finding a traditional round. If you go to J or K color, you will be able to find a stone for 2k.

I was just going to say the same thing either that or a really low coloured so W,X, Y, Z pale yellow perfectly cut RB that would look pretty cool in there as well.

If it becomes impossible to find the right OEC I would definitely be open to a RB or a lower colour diamond. I don't think I have it in me to spend months searching. I admire those who can and find amazing stones.

Bingo!

$2095
0.94ct EGL N VS1 - gorgeous faceting
6.05x5.93x4.05mm
http://www.ebay.com/itm/0-94ct-EGL-USA-CERT-EXCELLENT-IDEAL-VINTAGE-VS1-OLD-EUROPEAN-CUT-LOOSE-DIAMOND-/400658415979?pt=Loose_Diamonds&hash=item5d491a416b

It ends in literally minutes but if it doesn't sell you could call and find out if they'll re-list or sell it off ebay ::)

I was looking at that one earlier! It's an 'N'. I wonder how it would look in my H-I colour halo ........

Visibly more tinted... I think you'd have to go with a GIA-standard J/K or higher to not see the difference in most types of lights. That one's an EGL N, too, so quite possibly a good bit lower by GIA standards... one option might be a yellow gold bezel to play up the pale yellow?

It's like you are reading my mind! I would definitely consider a yellow gold bezel! I've emailed to ask if it sold and if not can I see the video they mention in the listing.

Is this a good example of an OEC? I have had one before but it was quite small and didn't really sparkle very much.

Must be that great minds thing

Actually I was thinking of this ring that was just posed in CS last week  I think her stone is quite a bit more saturated than this one, but it's also prong-set and I'm thinking a rich YG bezel should work wonders to even up the odds a bit!

Are you particular about the finish of the bezel? I've noticed that some finishes tend to play up colour more than others - brushed finishes, or surfaces with engraving/milgrain always look more strongly coloured than plain polish, to me. What do you think about a milgrain bezel to outline the center? It's quite a different style from the rest of the ring but then, a yellow OEC would be a very different style from the rest of the ring too, so the contrast could look deliberate rather than mismatched/

That is lovely!! I'd love a yellow diamond! I did contact diamondsbylauren to see if they have anything in my budget. These were the two that were recommended. One was over by $1k and the other was under but slightly too small.

I have been eyeing that first DBL myself!! But I don't know what I'd do with it besides take it to bed, and I think it's just a bit too small for your project ;(

There goes that great minds thing again! I'm having the setting engraved while it's back with BGD! It's too sleek and streamlined as it is and I want to make it look more vintage-like. I love milgrain so I am happy to have that in abundance!

Maybe we could feed it lots of chocolate and cake and make it bigger. Works on me

 Well what else are ya gonna do with a diamond in bed, besides feed it chocolate!?

Where are they going to engrave? The shank - up the split shoulders? That'll be lovely!!

I'm going to poke around a bit more... yellow, 6mm, round, gorgeous faceting a must...

Haha, bed + chocolate = happy Maisie and chubby diamond!

The engraving will be everywhere apart from a small area for sizing (just in case miracles happen and I become a size 4)

Just out of interest, what do you think of the other DBL diamond I posted?
