I’ve been in contact with a lovely PS’er about a brooch she has for sale. I’m thinking of setting this diamond in the center in place of the pearl, She reached out to David Klass to see how possible this would be and he said the width is not as much a concern as the depth. I have taken this to an appraiser but can’t find the dimensions on the diamond at the moment.

So I’m wondering if it could be elevated in a cathedral type setting so the culet isn’t touching my finger or if an undercarriage could be built to elevate it? Before proceeding further I just want to see from those more experienced if this is in the realm of possibility. The small “x” under the pearl can be easily cut out.

The brooch:

I’m not experienced as you are requesting
But I had the same thoughts about this pin as you - on adding to the undercarriage.
Are you planning on keeping the pin’s pear shaped parts on the ring? As is or angled or incorporated elsewhere somehow?
This is interesting - hope you do proceed :)

I would like to keep the pear shaped parts and maybe have them angled on the shoulders slightly downwards.

If I remember correctly you can photoshop? Would you be able to photoshop the diamond into the brooch. There may have to be a slight airline but that doesn’t bother me, I’m just terrible at picturing things.

Let me know the diameter of your diamond? I don’t want to guess that much wildly at what the airline will be
thx!

Some food for thought - keeping in mind size perspective is most likely off just a bit due to angle and my limitations of accuracy.

but I think (hope) this gives you an idea of what to maybe expect with airline with and without prongs, and doubling milgrain bezel to eliminate airline. But really, less than a mm in an airline wouldnt put me off a bit.
I tried darkening to maybe be a representation of the airline better?

I think this particular cluster is a fantastic option.
Glad to hear keeping the pear bits

That looks amazing @Rfisher :kiss2:
Thank you so much for doing a mock-up for me! I think I’m going to move forward with this, I believe there must be a way to make this work even if the diamond is slightly too deep.

Yay!!
I agree. There is a way to do this. You will find it.
I’m excited to see where it takes you.

Thanks @CSpan, I guess there was a reason I just couldn’t let this one go!

My first thought - I think if you want to keep the side pears you’ll have to build up the gallery and push the halo up - to give the pears some space to angle downward

Otherwise, just elevating the center of the halo - there’s no space to angle the sidestones

Thank you @kgizo!

@yssie, thanks for pointing this out, do you think saving the pear bits is doable or is it going to make the ring look awkward? I also don’t know how easy it will be to get them at the proper position to be angled. So many things to consider!

David will know whether you can keep them or not. Can’t imagine that you couldn’t. That would look super!

I think some will depend on your ring size vs the diameter of the cluster.
also if bench would rather create from new, than recreate with moving existing parts around. Not trying to be negative - but I think that’s a real consideration to be had.

this is somewhat how I imagined the shoulder being angled and utilizing those components ( and once again a lot will be determine with ring size and component sizes.)

Thanks for weighing in @ringo865 I am excited to see what is possible, I’m aiming to preserve as much of this brooch as possible.

@Rfisher, that’s a good point about ring size and components, I’m hoping there is a way to make it all work but also realize there needs to be some flexibility.

Yes, it can be done.

I am having a pendant converted to a ring because I don't wear necklaces. The pendant is relatively flat.

The center of the pendant is a diamond floral thing.

That's becoming a ring.

Basically, a frame/gallery is being built. The reason that the construction was done that way is partly because the number of stones that my exterior halo has is not even. so the band was going to look funny where it was placed. Adding the additional little frame fixes that.

There will be engraving on the band and various other things done to the ring, this is just the rough shell.
