I was looking VERY seriously at a diamond (specs below) and I get paid this thursday and the diamond already got bought by someone else. I was going to buy it from James Allen. Does anyone know any other good places like that or can suggest another diamond with similar specs? Thanks!

Shape: Princess
Carat weight: 0.48
Cut: Signature
Color: G
Clarity: VS2
Certificate: GIA
Depth: 73%
Table: 72%
Polish: Excellent - Ideal
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Thin to Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 4.23*4.23*3.09
Ratio: 1.00

Ohh, tough one... this is one that you DON''T want... .55 J SI2 for 975 http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-1226187.htm

For some reason, you really liked that G VS2 over the F SI1, didn't you?

yea...just something about it caught my eye.....but obviously it caught someone else''s too

I suppose 1150 is a bit overbudget? (.45 E VS2, 4.3^2) You''re paying for the high color...

no that would be fine...is .45 from .48 that noticeable? I was hoping to get as close to .50 as possible. But if it''s only minor it''d be perfect

I would rather you spend less or get more size and get a G/H or even I.

This one is actually bigger than the .48, because of the shallow depth.

search for it on www.dbof.com , ask for pictures and a "reflector image," if possible

If this stone won't do for whatever reason, you'll probably just have to work with a vendor instead of checking inventory, because half carat princesses are probably not in very high demand (I'm guessing.)

would this be the best time to talk to the local guy now? haha I know he can get somethign in that area...my boss got a 1.5C and she got it cheaper and even a better diamond than from the company she was looking at...so i might have to set a meeting up with him if James Allen doesn''t get anything in before then....how long does it take for them to get in new stuff?

I kinda doubt that they''ll restock in those sizes...you''ll just have to tell JA what you''re looking for (.45-.5, F-H? VS2-SI1, and oh, maybe top 5% of cut?)

And the local guy...an Idealscope is just 25 dollars.

Here''s what I got....i''m not really sure on cut what is good...does everythign else look decent?

Shape: Princess
Cut: ?
Carat: .47-.51
Clarity: VS2-VVS1
Color: G-D
Depth: 75
Table: 62-68

I really suggest SI1 to VS2... but if VS is important to you, no more than VS2. You really don't need VS1 or higher

Color: F/G

Depth...up to 75 is good, but an absolute max of 77 (because more than that and you're just paying for depth)

I personally think a 62 table is a bit small. I'm thinking 65-70 (my personal preferences,) although an absolute max of 73.

At this size, it's safer to go to H SI1 than if you were getting a 1.5 ct.

More: crown height of at least 8%? around 10 is good

Pavilion angle more than 39, and a crown angle less than 37 should keep you safe.

aren''t the inclusions obvious on the SI1?

ok, good point.....haha....so it''d be fine?

Well, it kind of takes practice... I THINK there''s something on the 2 o''clock arrow and I know there''s a black smudge near the center between the 3 and the 5 o''clock arrows.

But that''s 40x.

Anyway, I think SI1 is pretty safe. Stick with GIA/AGS. And always ask the vendor if it''s eye-clean. With the local guy you''ll get to see it in person.

thanks so much...you''re one of the nicest people i''ve ever had help me in anything...not kidding. You''re getting no gain out of this and you''re helping me and it is GREALTLY appreciated by me and i can safely also say by my future fiance. If i make any progress i''ll post something in the next couple weeks.

Thanks! I hope you find something great.

I think many of us don''t feel confident about commenting on the cut of princess stones, so I am glad Julie is helping you! I just wanted to say that G-H color and VS is also my preference. I think those 40X pictures are a little deceiving because you can see SI inclusions with 10X magnification. Clarity is really a personal preference.

so do you think this one is a good price? This is my first diamond EVER buying and it''s for my an e-ring.......sooo i want to make her happy....she''s waited 5 years for this.

i think it has great potential. i would love to see an idealscope image of it.

Im in the same boat...Im looking for a .95-1.10 Princess cut

I was initally looking for a

G or better at at least vs2...that would be acceptable

Then I want the Ideal cut...becuase from what i gather this is truely what makes the diamond sparke. correct

But then im not sure what table size, depth and crown would be peferrd with stone like this.

My budget is 5k after tax and all that (this includes the setting) She likse the tiffany setting so thats good for me

One thing I like about the local people is that they offer warrantys, trade up and all that jazz

can anyone make any suggestions for me?

i just looked at www.whiteflash.com for a friend today and they have in a new group of ags0 princess cuts in expert selection.

if you are asking about what i wanted to see, it was the red reflector image (idealscope). you submitted one on the other stone.

don''t ya hate it when the diamond she would love gets past ya?

having been in exactly that place before, i can tell you that while you think you have lost out on the only perfect opportunity and you want to beat your head repeatedly on the wall, something else will come along. i guarantee it.

i have a month and 4 days to find it, order it, and have it shipped lol......or i''ll have to come up with another day to propose
