These are vintage earrings, two-tone 14k and sold to me as blue topaz surrounded by white sapphire.

5.6-5.8mm center stones but the setting will accommodate up to about 6mm easily.

But after a year of not wearing them, I’m either replacing the center stones or moving on. I do love them, but Blue Topaz doesn’t move my soul.

I’m leaning toward inexpensive opal or moonstone but very open to suggestion! Tell me what to do?

im gonna go out on a limb and say onyn because onyx deserves some love

edit but i do actually like the blue topaz

MooooOooooOoooooooonstone, I have a thing for moonstone.

I voted moonstone or amethyst but I think moonstones would look gorgeous so they are my first pick.

As we say here Go Black !

(because black is our national colour)

I had to look up your team and came across this from Rhys Darby and so enjoyed this video!
thank you =)2

i think a really nice thing about an internet community is learning about others

this is actually a thing
see down here we have our maps with the Pacific ocean in the middle

and nice to have things other than covid to think about

My 3c…

Not coral. There’s very little that could beat out your vintage carved roses, if you convert those [back?] to earrings.

Not blue. Because I think if you wanted blue… You would be wearing these more often regardless of specific shade of blue or type of gemstone.

Not moonstone. Personal preference. I think moonstone looks best with something sort of back plate that acts as a foil back, and that’s a lot more conversion work than just popping a new pair of stones in.

Not opal, only because you already have opal studs!

Not pearl for the same reason as moonstone - more work needed to retrofit the mounts than just popping a new pair of faceted gemstones in.

I’m loving the idea of bright turquoise - both because I think it’d be fab in this style and because I think it could play nicely in a few of your capsules ::)

Did you decide what to do?

I'm late to the party, but what about deep, rich garnets?

If garnets are a no, then I'd vote angel skin coral or turquoise.

It might be a bit of an unusual choice, but would you consider lapis? The color of lapis would look beautiful on you and against your hair.

I ordered a few packets of cabochons (see pic below from amazon listing), and while none of them matched well enough to use, I like the idea. This is still a pending project and the topaz are still intact. I also considered just leaving them without a center stone and using them as jackets, but decided against it. I believe Angelskin Coral, Moonstone, Lapis, stabilised Turquoise, and Citrine are the strongest contenders, all cabochons.

Will update!

Another vote here for old cut blue zircon, and a close second is the moonstone.
