So, there were already 40 people in front of me when I arrived at Costco at 9:00 for their 10:00 opening.
When Costco finally opened the single-file line reached around the front, side, and back of the huge building.

While waiting, a big burly manager barked out line-forming orders to the customers, and to his employees who were stationed along the line.
He also announced they had no water at that time; that day's water delivery time was uncertain, also that TP and paper towels had a limit of 2 per customer.
He emphasized to NOT run when in the store.
(I later learned that the previous day there was a rushing mob that was a big problem.)

By 9:30 LOTS of customers were arriving, unhappy about the line.
Several tried to cut in, but got a mouthful from those in line.
Most moved to the the end of the line but several did not.
They just stood there next to people who had been waiting over an hour, silently staring at their phones - I guess pretending to not speak english or something.
One customer notified the manager, but he said there's not much he could do.

There was no shouting or pushing, but the tension was very palpable.
They opened the doors 10 minutes early, smart.
Inside, employees were stationed all along the route to where the paper was.
To speed things up employees loaded the paper goods into our carts for us.
All the time employees were shouting, SINGLE FILE LINE!

It was surreal.
When I finally made it to my car I took several deep breaths.
It was stressful, but I got my stuff.

ETA: I bought the limit, 2 each - not to hoard, but to avoid this huge hassle caused by the hoarders.
I was not there because of the virus panic; I was simply out of TP and PT.

Surreal indeed.

This is the most amazing PriceScope cope thread ever! LOL
I feel I know all of you better than I do my own family or even people I’ve known for a million years…
Not that this is stuff I need to know about LOL :lol::lol:

Edit...Except it’s good to know that I’m not the only chocolate addict out there.

I learned I cannot keep chocolate in the house. Well I can but not without eating it all in a very short time period. I bought a few (delicious non dairy who knew it existed!) bars and within 3 days they were all gone. I didn't even consider myself a chocaholic but I guess I was wrong. :lickout:

And now, finally, I can say without hesitation

I'd not stand on line I'd go somewhere else and buy my TP.. Also Costco should - if they don't already - limit one package per buyer.

Our Costco is now officially out of water. SMH. Crazy times.
They were allowing people to buy 5 cases and I saw people going over that limit. Foolish me for only getting one case this past Tuesday when Costco had it in stock and I could have bought more.

But on the bright side. We will never run out of cats.

Not that we’re hoarding cats or anything

I am a lazyass, so I order through Amazon. Ordered some. Not much.

On YouTube, there is a video about making masks out of tissues. Maybe that’s why they have disappeared?

I’d make a stash of meds, though.

I need to buy isopropyl alcohol so my daughter can do my nails and hers, because you need it when using gel. Can't find it anywhere in my city at all. Online it's $17 a regular size bottle. This is ridiculous. My husband also uses it for his leather working hobby. Sigh. I do wonder how long this hysteria is going to last. Luckily I collect hand soap, always have because I like different scents.

SNIP:
So why do people do it? Experts say the answer lies in a fear of the unknown, and believing that a dramatic event warrants a dramatic response – even though, in this case, the best response is something as mundane as washing your hands.

Another disturbing thing I've heard on a livestream was the sentiment that people are making "go" bags which include guns. A person who already owns a gun, is going to buy another gun to put in said "go" bag. Okay, within the law, I guess go for it, but I don't understand this level of fear. For most people, it's probably just going to be a bad flu. Where is everyone going to "go" anyway?

FWIW, Kleenex, napkins, and paper towels don't dissolve as quickly in water as TP does.
They are one big reason drain lines clog.

Our nearly 100 year old house has the original sectioned clay drain pipes, some with jagged cracks from tree roots.
One plumber even put a video camera, at the end of the snake, down there to show me.
Gross but informative.
Plumbers have told me those stubborn paper products would get caught on those cracks, causing clogs, and I'd be calling a plumber every week.

Even if your drain lines are new, I'd guess your city's waste processing facility hates that people flush those stubborn paper products down the toilet.

Good to know, but solution for that is not to flush the “paper product” down the drain, and just toss in trash can. A lot of developing countries still post “do not flush toilet paper” in their loos.

Earlier you wrote, "Call me crazy, I’m not concerned about TP shortage, and we are a high TP usage family with fast metabolisms!
In a pinch, I’d improvise with Kleenex, then napkins, or paper towels.
There is also cottonelle wet wipes or baby wipes....plenty of other solutions!"

So, you put it into your trash can?
Doesn't it stink up your house and attract flies?

Yeah, public bathrooms are still pretty disgusting in some of the countries I travel to for work....they have little trash cans with lids to “contain” the smell, but I’m not touching the trash can lid....

this is off topic, but the public bathroom at Beijing’s Main train station has no doors in their bathroom stalls, and they still had squatty potties. I was dying to use the restroom after a 4 hour train ride from Shanghai, but decided to wait another 1.5 hours to use the toilet in my hotel room.

People with babies who wear diapers do this often, it's something that most people have dealt with :)

You triple bag it and put it outside in the bin (outside the house) this is what normal people with kids do with nappies covered in poop......

Meat and shellfish in the bin seem to attract more flies than baby poop does, we freeze anything that is shellfish shells and so on, until the night before bin collection day for that reason. But it would be pretty yuck to put used nappies in the freezer, and you cannot put them in the toilet - so yes they go out into the outside bin.

So this is WinnDixie which is probably 4 blocks away from my house. Basically its the first of the month and people have gotten paid and so on. so... yeah stocked up? sure, but honestly that water is from our last hurricane season I was told....lol they need to get rid of it and they did indeed put it on sale. One of their folks said they had a big shipment in the back of the store to put out by tomorrow.

So, at the moment no issues with supply chain at lest not yet.

Similarly, I use ziplock bags for many things, but save them after their first use.
Then I'll use them for things like cantaloupe rind and chicken skin/fat that I trim away before cooking.
But I'll store that stuff in the freezer till our weekly trash day so my outdoor bin never stinks or draws flies.

You know years ago mums washed cloth nappies, flushing the baby poop down the loo and soaking the naps in nappy san (it has a new fancy name now) washing in the machine then line drying in the sun - that great big dryer and free sanitizer in the sky

I actually did this for the most part, I love cloth diapers!

That's great to hear :appl:
My mum was an iron-aholic
I remember her ironing my sister's cloth nappies and id stand beside just waiting to press my face into the warm ironed cloth - they smelt nice
Edit they also make fabulouse dusters and cleaning clothes once there are no more babies

The ones I use are "all in one" so when I'm eventually done with them I'll just sell them :)

Personally, I don't hoard. I don't agree with it. If everybody just stuck to their usual buying patterns, there would be enough for everyone as and when needed, like normal.

ETA: In normal times, I do stock up to some extent, to avoid going shopping more times than I need to, and to ensure I don't run out of something as basic as TP. I'm just saying that I wouldn't start buying a ton more than usual bc of coronavirus.

The local supermarket where I do my full weekly shop had been cleaned out of loo rolls and hand gels and liquid soaps a few days ago.

After my monthly hair cut in another town on Saturday, I went to the supermarket nearby, and they still had loo rolls on their shelves. So I bought myself a normal pack of 4 in the usual brand which should last nearly a month, and a pack of 12 in another brand for a friend who lives in my town who was not able to get hold of any in all the local shops she tried.

NOT joining the panic buying club!

DK :))

Still have a 7 week supply from the last time it was on sale.
I always buy ahead when its on sale.
Last time it was on sale I bought a 4 months supply.

We buy TP only when my favorite brand is on sale at Costco but we buy the maximum allowed. Have lots of storage space in the house so it is not a problem. We probably have about 200 rolls currently so we didn't buy any at this time.

However we did buy a 5-pack of Clorox wipes the other day that we have never bought before.

We just got back from a lovely walk. The weather here is mild and sunny and just beautiful. The streets were filled with people enjoying this perfect Sunday. And the restaurants seemed filled as well with crowds waiting. All very positive to see.

We stopped at a local drugstore to pick up some Sudafed for me and I noticed they had Lysol spray in stock woohoo. I say woohoo because the stores here have been out of that for weeks. Still no aloe vera or Purell however.

I decided to get one (that's right-one) can of Lysol Spray. I use it to spray the sink so Oliver doesn't go into the sink which he likes to do. And knowing how germy the sink is we deter him by spraying it with Lysol (nasty smelling stuff) and it works.

So anyway I was running very low and almost done with our last can of Lysol Spray due to the CV craze. You can imagine how pleasant a surprise it was it was in stock again. When I got up to the counter to pay the woman said " Your'e only buying one can? Everyone has been buying as many as they can" (the store had a 5 can limit) and I said I would rather leave it for people who really need it and take just what we need. She said it is so nice to see not everyone is being selfish.

Just sharing the story because just maybe it will catch on you never know and civility will rule again. Well, not rule per se because let's face it civility seems to be lacking but it would be so nice if people could just remain calm and polite and civil and less selfish overall.

I saw TP while I was out. Maybe stores will be caught up again here soon. I have no space to store anything extra. I will continue to buy as needed only.

I also freeze my compost (our city has a compost program) until ready to be taken away.

Stop hoarding toilet paper and learn how to wash your hands probably

Im not embarrassed to say as a life long sneezer i probably havn't been washing my hands often enough or good enough

And i think i do actually have enough toilet paper to last till our next scheduled grocery shop without having to break into the energency 4 pack
