We were looking to spend about $6500 for the diamond and setting. We ended spending almost $8000 for the whole kit-and-kaboodle. I initially wasn''t happy that we spent so much over, but now that it''s on my hand, I don''t mind it a bit!
This is an interesting poll. When I told my husband that I wanted to upgrade my ring he asked me for a budget amount. I had already done some research so I made it high enough that I knew we could find what I wanted for less. That way he felt like he got a deal! So I voted that we were under budget.
We went way over our budget. Initially our budget was around 10k . We ended up speding almost 30k. Can you believe my husband had to force me to purchase the ring ( he paid
) because I thought it was wayyyyyyy toooooo expensiveeeee. But I'm glad he did
How we decided on a budget:We don't "do" the financing/credit card/spend-what-we-don't-already-have-saved-thing and are both in our early/mid 20's...
I voted "Moderately Over" because our initial budget was max:$4,200 (what we had in the bank, LOL!). We ended up finding an amazing stone, exactly what I wanted but didn't think we could afford thanks to this forum and Whiteflash!, and set it in a "temporary" platinum setting (D. Vatche X-Prong) with a promise to upgrade it with my WB for a total around $6,000-and will have all the money together to pay for it by the time the cc bill comes (We've been on a Mac & Cheese/Ramon Noodle Diet this past month
but worth it!). Its a good thing I want a long engagement, my fiance has a while to save for the WB
Way over budget. Pricescope is bad. Too many beautiful stones. When I first started looking, I didn''t think diamonds were even all that pretty (saw mainly bad cuts). I thought I was gonna waste $7-10K (the initial budget). The Pricescope came along and I started looking into ideal cuts and H&A and other lovely price increasing features. Ended up spending almost $18K. But, the ring is gorgeous. Not only is she proud to wear it, I''m proud to say I bought it and picked it out all by my lonesome (well, with help from you guys).
yep PS is definitely bad for the budgets....many of the stories we hear around here are that people go over the budget...but then there are those lucky souls that come in under!!
PS wasn''t around when we got my ring but if it was you can sure bet I would''ve found an amzing stone and been under budget. PS has saved me a ton of money on my eternity band 5K, jewelers around here wanted 16K
, and on my diamond studs. So in a way I feel good about some jewelry purchases.
