My rings are 14K white gold. I LOVE and care for my rings by polishing them on a daily basis with my polishing cloth.

A good rub with the polishing cloth not only removes any tarnish, but it really gives my ring and diamonds a great shine

.

However, this morning My DH chimed in that he thought that I will wear down the rhodium faster by daily polishing.

So, I thought I''d check-in with *the experts* here on PS to see if doing any harm to my rings with my daily regimen.

Gee, I don't know Metro. I only know that when polished by a professional, the metal will be worn down over the years and the gold will get thinner. But this is over MANY years. It would make sense that the rhodium plating will probably get worn out too, but how quickly, I have no idea.

wg doesn''t ''tarnish'' and the chances of wearing down the finish by polishing daily seems too great to outweigh any real benefit. personally, i wouldn''t do it but if you are happy with your routine then, by all means, continue with it.

That''s exactly what I was thinking. Also, by repeating this over many years as Chrono said, you''ll lose METAL, so your rings might become more fragile over time.

Yes, I agree wit Belle and Neatfreak, WG does not tarnish. A daily quick swipe with a soft cotton cloth (not a silver/metal polishing cloth) after cleaning the diamond will suffice to remove handprints and body oils to make the metal gleam again.

I missed the part where you wrote that you used a polishing cloth!

The cloth has a white part for removing tarnish and to loosen dirt. The grey cloth shines the metal.

"This polishing cloth measures 4" x6" and comes in grey with an inner white cloth. You can polish your gold, silver or other metals to a brillant shine!"

When I polish all white gold, tarnish does come off. If wg does not tarnish, then....

then there is either something in your polishing cloth that is reacting with the jewelry or you work in an oil field. there shouldn''t be any ''tarnish'' coming off of wg.

That looks like a silver polishing cloth. Are you sure it says it''s for gold? Perhaps what you''re seeing as "tarnish" on the cloth is really white gold you''re polishing off?

I agree with Surfgirl. I have a cloth like that that specifically says not to use on other metals.

hi! there is a jewelry polishing cloth made by hagerty. the back of the box says it is designed to quickly and effectively clean and polish all gold,, silver, and platinum necklaces, bracelets, rings, chains and all fine jewelry. it is 12"x15" and is white on one side and gray on the other.

i own one but use it very infrequently on old jewelry. i see no reason you could not use it on any jewelry but i wouldn't use it every day. mainly because i don't think my jewelry needs its. i also have an ultrasonic cleaner that i do use frequently but not every day. hth.
