Hi colored stone experts,

How easy or hard is it to polish a scratched citrine? It has checkerboard facets. Would it need to be removed from the setting?

Yes, it would need to be removed. Unless the stone is large, it would cost more to remove the stone, re-cut or polish, then reset, than the stone is worth.

As far as I know, any work done to a gemstone will require the gem to be removed from the setting first. I don''t expect it to be difficult work but considering the relative cost of the citrine, it might not be worth it.

Precision Gem and Chrono,

Thanks for the info. It is a scratch on an earring, only about 3 carats in size, so probably is just not worth it.
