Polish issue/wear on new e-ring

Hi all (first post),

First of all, let me say that PS is an amazing resource for learning about and researching diamonds. I lurked through the PS forums and made heavy use of the HCA during my search for my (my girlfriend/soon-to-be fiancee's) diamond.

Now, I chose a BG blue set into a Sholdt solitaire setting. I received the ring yesterday but while inspecting it, noticed the polish on the bottom portion of the inside face of the ring (the side that would contact the finger) seemed almost worn. The polish is definitely different than the other parts of the ring and I swear it seems almost yellow. I've raised concerns about it to Darla @ BG and is continuing to figure out what to do. I'm fairly certain BG has no fault here (as I'm told Sholdt did the actual mounting). Anyhow, my question to all y'all PS'ers is, is this type of defect within reason for a new ring? And if not, is it worth sending back to have polished or w/e might be the fix? One picture shows (not too effectively) what I'm talking about but it is apparent once you see the difference in polish in the second picture.

Thanks,
Gary

It's possible they forgot to polish the inside after resizing it. Same thing happened to me when I had my wide pave band resized. If that's the case, it's a very easy fix.

Snicklefritz,

thanks for the response.. That seems totally plausible to me.. Is it worth me sending it back? Would/should they cover additional shipping charges? Would this type of thing affect appraised values? (I'm trying to get it insured asap)

Thanks,
Gary

I would strongly doubt it would affect appraised value. And, I'm not sure what BGD's policies are on something like this, but since it's an error that occurred on their end of things, I would think it would be up to them to pay for shipping. As to whether or not it's worth sending back to have it polished up, that's completely up to you. I'm stickler for that sort of stuff, and it would bother me. But if it doesn't bother you enough, and you think it won't bother your future fiance, then you certainly don't have to send it back. You could always have it done at a later date when you send it in for a regular check-up.

You could ask your contact person at BGD if/how taking it to your local jeweler for a quick (as in seconds) polishing out of the bottom of the band would affect your warranty. However, the fact that you said it looks a little yellow suggests they may need to rhodium dip the bottom as well. I really have no idea what would or wouldn't void their warranty.

Thanks for the follow up! Denise at BGD has contacted Scholdt and they are going to take care of it next week (I kind of want it to propose this week)! I'll make sure to post the pictures of it after :)
