.5 is a valid result for the HCA. I think the stone looks lovely.

Thanks!

I''m also wondering how to figure out how to calculate a stone''s price with the PS discount through Whiteflash?

Looks like a winner to me Orbaya!!!

There have been many threads about the WF discount, do a search and you should find the answer. Good luck, let us know what you decide.

Correct.
Thanky kindly Sir John.

Technically, the culet is the name given to the flat facet on the pavilion of the diamond which is parallel to the table facet on the top of the diamond. In the "old" days, all diamonds had culets, a culet facet. This helped to prevent chipping of the bottom of the diamond during setting or when the diamond was worn. Diamonds used to be set quite low in rings and often the bottom of the diamond actually depressed the skin of one''s finger a bit. Just imagine how easy running such a ring down a ring sizing mandrel could chip the bottom of a diamond that had a pointed base rather than a culet facet. It offers a similar protection as a medium girdle does versus a knife edged girdle.

Anyway, modern styles raise the pavilion of the diamond up higher so having no culet facet becomes an acceptable option. It also serves to improve light return since there does not appear to be a hole in the center of the diamond. What used to be common, a medium culet, now is far more rare and most diamonds now have no culet, or what most people call either a pointed culet or a closed culet.

AGS used to deduct a point for no culet facet....Now they don''t. I happen to agree that it makes no difference with today''s setting style.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Oldminer!

YW Lorelei. That's good old input from good oldminer, and the reason modern round brilliant diamonds with no, non, or pointed culets are 57 facet diamonds, whereas those with a culet have 58 facets.
