When someone says that a diamond is "eye clean" does that mean that you can not see the inclusions without the aid of magnification, regardless of the angle or position you view it from? Thanks!

Eye clean means different things to different vendors. So you'll always want to verify

Some say 12 " away, some say. 6"....

Some say just the top view, some say top and side. Verify with the vendor and make sure your definition and the vendors match.

I have a GIA SI2 diamond which is absolutely "eye clean". You cannot tell the difference from this diamond and my GIA VSI. I bought mine online and if you get help from a sales associate they can and will tell you that it's eye clean or that you should pass.

Agree. This is something that I learned along the way. As I spoke to my vendor each time, I was able to ask more specific questions based on what I was reading on PS (suggestions older threads). I definitely agree you have to be specific with pretty much any question you ask.

Eye clean? At how many inches? From the side view as well? Okay so.... it is eye clean, but do the inclusions (that cannot seen) interfere with light refraction? I was also looking at SI2s. Changes things a bit. With that said, my SI2 kicks the butt of my VS2! (Cuts are day and night).

I feel reading up and educating yourself to know specifically what to ask will definately help :)

I agree with Niel. It seems to vary from vendor to vendor. Make sure you not only ask what their definition of eye clean is. Also, check that they have good trade up and return policies too! :wavey:

and unfortunately...

18-40 - - -1 carat = 1 carat / buy it
41-55 - - -1 carat = 0.75 carat / sorry, you'll need a 1.5ct
over 55 - 1 carat = wait, there's a diamond in that ring?! / don't look at anything under 3 carats
