I am still trying to find a suitable diamond for trade up. As before, I have no idealscope or other helpful image, and I will not be getting them from this retailer, which I must work through if I am going to trade up in this manner. All I've got are these stats and, if they warrant bringing in the diamond, my trusty loupe, H&A viewer, and idealscope.

Here are the stats. The HCE is 1.5, however, I believe (as last time) this diamond has a table percentage which is greater than ideal. Not sure how combined with everything else this would work or not work. Last time enhanced brilliance was the potential, but the crown angle was different (it was 33).

2.01ct J SI1, GIA # 6117489949 Depth 61.3%, T. 59%, C Angle 34, P. Angle 40.8. Total Visual Performance 1.5-Excellent within TIC range.

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

ps here is my last post. i did not get this diamond:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/what-do-you-think-of-this-2ct-rb-trade-up-potential.131585/

ETA: from the GIA report check:

Proportions:
Crown Height: 13.5%
Pavilion Depth: 43.0%
Star length: 55%
Lower Half: 80%
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick, Faceted
Culet: None
Finish:
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: Faint
Comments: Clouds are not shown.

I have a diamond with similar angles/ table and depth- it is very bright the 59% table still got the GIA Ex rating- I brought it to an independent appraiser who also raved about how sparkly and well cut it looked. HTH

The diamond in question has excellent proportions and the table size isn''t too big, its a very nicely cut stone by the look of it.

I actually like brightness over fire since most lighting environments favour brightness anyways!

Are yo utrading through your original jewler? Does you Fi know this time?

WOO HOO thank you Lorelei! This has been quite a process. I''m going to have them bring it in to view.

Suzanna, thanks for your comments as well.

LOL Dreamer you have a good memory! No, FI will be none the wiser and I will be much happier. Poorer, but happier.

I am trading through the original retailer. I''d like to name it as I think it would give you a good laugh but I want to try to be a bit more anonymous than that if anyone close to me should ever read this site and guess (as if, but still ....).

I am paying much more than I would buying online but I''m pretty pessimisstic about its resale potential. I really wanted to buy from one of our lovely e-tailers with all their pictures and trade up policies etc, but it doesn''t seem like the best option here.

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do! I did not recall your story, but I looked back through your threads the other day after reading some of your posts.

What is the actual out of pocket cost going to be for this change anways? I ask because maybe you have not through through the options completely wrt the switcheroo.

Out of pocket cost is $6000. A comparable diamond (well, if I can assume it would be as well cut which I can't ETA: I meant if I could assume my trade up prospect would be as well cut as BGD, not the other way around) from BGD, for example, would be $15k. So I'd have to be able to sell my diamond for $9000 for it to be a wash.

What my diamond is worth is a bit variable, and of course all depends on whether I can sell it. I met with an appraiser this morning, in fact, which prompted these postings. She said it was right on the edge of SI2/I1, but she was giving it an SI2 b/c the inclusions did not look as though they impacted the integrity of the diamond. However, she said it was a very "busy" diamond and I've been told by others it's an I1. She also could not measure the depth as it was mounted but using a computer estimater came out with a size of 1.96 (it's represented by EGL as 2.05, but was also appraised by them mounted).

So, she said it would wholesale $5k - $7k depending on that clarity grade unless I have it unmounted and it weighs out to the 2 ct mark. In that case, if it is an SI2 it would wholesale for $5500/ct, or $11k.

That said, if it's a "busy" diamond, who's going to want to buy it? I think it will just sit.

Hmmm... I really hate to see you throw good money after bad, at it were, but if you can get what you really want for $6k it could be worth it going through the B&M. Still less than starting from scratch. Although, if you sold you diamond for $5k, added it to your $6k, you could get a J SI1 1.8ct H&A... food for thought. For the right price, someone will buy your diamond.

Are you sure you don't want to talk to your FI about this?

You are absolutely right Dreamer (see my latest post). I''m going to wait. Or perhaps buy my next diamond now before prices go up
emcrook.gif
but wait a few years to broach the idea with my FI of a switcheroo to a smaller stone. In the meantime I''ll just bring it out now and then to look at in secret. Like a crazy person.

This is crazy indeed

. Tough love: You need to talk to your FI about this. If he cannot listen to how you feel and you two cannot find a resolution to this rather small blip in married life, then it does not bode well for future more important and emotional issues like, oh, where to live, when to have kids etc etc etc.

Thanks Dreamer. I already tried some time back. He flipped out. Maybe it was the process of the buying and the proposing that has me hating this diamond as much as the actual diamond itself. In fact, I know it is.

I say then keep this diamond and buy yourself one you like better, whatever size that is, and then just wear it. Don''t lie, he will find out one day and it will hit the fan.
