Hey all!!

A conversation with @Boom several weeks ago sent me down a rabbit hole and I'd love to see what other PSers think.

Seven comparisons. For each comparison, please tell me:
- Do you think RIGHT has more contrast, or LEFT has more contrast, or do they have the SAME amount of contrast? Whatever that word "contrast" means to you, no need to explain unless you want to.
- Do you personally like the way RIGHT looks better, or LEFT, or do you like/dislike them basically the SAME amount (ie. No opinion)? Again, no need to explain why unless you want to, I'm deliberately not giving any context!

For example (not my actual thoughts, just for example) -
A right left
B left right
C same same
[...]

PS. Please try to answer before seeing what other people have said  And if you can look at these on a computer or tablet, or turn your phone sideways so the screen is bigger, that'd really help ::)

Thank you!!

I need to come up with a way of explaining what contrast means to me. I think it’s a combination of the degree of difference between dark and light, sharpness of the edge between them, but only to a certain size for some reason as made apparent by these images. I also appear to find that more evident with brighter white than for the same degree of difference with grey and black.

A right - thinking board flashes
B Right. Left is blurry
C. Left - broader flash than right
D. Left. Right is blurry
E. Tough one. I think right, but it a CS, color zoning in left? That’s just what comes to mind. But if it’s a close up on a broad flash, then it would me a difference in my vote….
F. Two medium contrasts (dark to mid tone - light to mid tone)…. Forced to choose, I’d choose left: dark to mid. The contrast of the light to mid makes my eyes swim.
G. Another tough one. Both blurry. I’d choose right because it’s less blurry.
