Harry Winston is too smart for me. I can''t post a link or pic from his site. I''d go to the store and have a look. You can see if you like a basket setting or just prongs. I do love Boston Jeff''s setting, too. Four double claw prongs would be heaven to me. Are you wanting a plain metal band? Or eternity? Or half eternity? I always hate that term when referring to a wedding band...Like if you only have a half eternity your marriage will only last half an eternity - hehe. I''ll keep working on the HW link or pic.
Please do. I''d like a plain metal band. Btw, what do you mean by a "just prongs" setting? Also, what is a cathedral setting?

The double prongs became a must-have for me, but that was for a cushion (and an old-style in particular). But I do like the look of the double-claws on rounds as well, and prefer that to 6-prong styles.

Harriet, if you can wait a week or so, I will have tons of pictures of my ring for you, and would be happy to take a few requests from you if you wanted to see the setting from a certain angle or if you had other questions.
Hi, I can wait. Thanks for your offer, which I will certainly take up.

well, I have looked at tons of settings by tons of designers. i have also seen Leon's work in person and IMO he is and equal to any of the high end designers I saw. seriously, you're in NY, you can work with him directly in person. it would be a no brainer for me. Mark Morrell does beautiful work too, but to me, his magic is in the polish of the metal which you need more of to appreciate. I just don't associate dainty/thin with a MM ring. There is also Maytal Hoffman who's made some beautiful pieces for Pricescopers just to throw out another idea for you but I say Leon hands down would be my pick.

''Just prongs'' is my eloquent way of saying ''classic tiffany solitaire''. What you have now. Of course there are so many different twists to that design. A cathedral setting is when the shank or sides swoops up to meet the head. Boston Jeff''s is a basket set head with a cathedral shank and double claw prongs...I think...I''ll have to go back and look........again...man I love that ring. Have you talked to Leon? I''d go with him since you are in NY.

Thanks for yet another name. You''re right -- Leon has the homeground advantage. I''d like to hear more from people who''ve worked with him though.
Btw, how''s Zoe?

Ah.

I have spoken with Leon, but I''d like to hear more from others about working with him.
Woman, now''s my turn to chase you for pictures!

If you did go with Mark Morrell, would you do the Sunburst? Or would that be too much metal? I wonder if he would customize, or slim down, the Sunburst??

Harriet,
i''ve never worked with him, but have spoken to him on the phone several times and he was nothing but a complete gentleman and very, very nice. Not a hint of *artist temperment* I''d read about here. And, from the gals/guys who worked with Leon in person all have great reviews. Check our Reena''s thread, familystone and i know there are more. From what I''ve read, the ones who met him said he showed them rings he''s in the middle of making, has a huge book with designs that aren''t any where on his website etc. I think you would probably find it a wonderful experience..

Kathleen,
The Sunburst is really pretty, but it won't sit flush with a band, right? Also, he doesn't know if he can do the Sunburst in my case.

You know, I think you''re right about the band not sitting flush. Just out of curiosity, why didn''t he think the Sunbust would work for you? Was it because of the size of your stone?

Good to know. Thanks!
Btw, did I get your dog''s name correct?

you did. Zoe is doing great. I''ve been exercising her a lot lately b/c she needed to loose a couple of lingering winter pounds and she''s looking as beautiful as ever. thanks for asking

Not to threadjack...but kcoursolle, I noticed that you post about Knox at LOT, and I know you live in Minneapolis where they are right? We''re headed there for a short trip just for fun, is it worth tracking down their store?
Hi neatfreak, I actually live in Los Angeles. I''m from the midwest and have family in Minneapolis though. I post a lot about knox because I think they are so wonderful to work with and have very reasonably priced high quality settings. I am so happy with them I had them make 2 projects so far, and a 3rd is in the works.

I''m not sure if it''s worth a trip or not, because I''ve actually never been there! I do plan on going one of these days though when I''m in MN for a visit and I plan on taking some pictures. If you end up going please share your experiences!! Brian is such a nice guy, I''d love to meet him and his son Ryan sometime.

I loooove this Cartier solitaire.

I''ve never had any custom jewelry made, but for something like this, I''d be over the moon to have either Mr. Mege or Mr. Morrell create me a masterpiece.

ooooh, I love this!!! So pretty!

Mrs. Salvo,
You're welcome.

As for mine, let's see -- Winston got lost in the duvet last night and Myrtle ate an entire stargazer lily a few weeks ago!

Bingo.

Skippy,

Even skinnier and plainer.

Oh, then LM. Why do you want to change?

Morrell does custom too. Why do I want to change what, sweetie?

OK, Harriet. I was just poking around MWM''s site. If it''s minimal metal you want I don''t think he''d be the guy for you. His metal work IS amazing though. Did you look at the HW site? I *think* what you are thinking is similar to their solitaire. The HW inspired ring would compliment your fab new earrings.

The double-claw one?

Ahhhhhhhhhh...That''s the one. My very favorite. I loooove double prongs. I have a bit of a prong fetish. It drives DH crazy when I go on a rant about prongs. He can''t understand my fascination with just the right prongs. I guess not many people notice because there are some folks with ugly prongs out there. Not PSers of course. Did you happen to see the oval solitaire w/ dbl. prongs at HW? If so, what did you think?

The only ring I can ever look at is the micropave halo cushion!

Did you ever find the tsavorite? Wasn''t that what you were looking for? And LM was going to make that setting for you?

The only tsavorites that have been found are the old-fashioned ones. I''m looking for a crushed-ice one. So, I''ll probably just wait till I can buy the diamond one from HW (don''t worry, it will be smaller than my e-ring). Do you like that ring?

AGBF wins for the solitare with the least amount of metal by far.

Ooh, do you have a picture of hers?

Very much. I haven''t seen it in person. I''d imagine it is just gorgeous. I keep meaning to get up to LA and give HW a visit.

Harriet I am so LAZY about going through old threads but if you do a search I am sure her''s will come up. I think it is only 1 mm wide.
