Hello,

I''m trying to buy a ring from a vendor, but the only thing I know right now are the specs from the GIA certificate. Would someone lend me offer their expertise in this matter? He says it''s worth over $10000. I think it''s worth $5000. He is willing to let me look at the ring for five days, granted I have the money in his account.

Here are the numbers from the GIA certificate dated Feb. 23, 2002:

Shape and Cutting Style: Rectangular Modified Brilliant
Measurements: 5.95 X 5.44 X 3.98 mm
Weight: 1.05 carat
Proportions
Depth: 73.2%
Table: 77%
Girdle: Thin to Medium
Cutlet: None
Finish
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Clarity Grade: VS2
Color Grade: G
Flourescence: None
( On the picture diagram, it has a crystal and a cloud symbol right in the center of the diamond )

He doesn''t know the crown height!

Please Help! I''m not sure if it is prudent for me to buy this ring ( it also comes with an 18K gold ring with 4 Princess Cut Diamonds weighing .29ct and Taper Baguette 4 pieces weighing .1ct). I am weary because it seems like such a good deal. So I have two questions:

1) How much do you think its worth?
2) How do I know that it is not chipped or altered, or won''t be damaged if I get the center diamond removed?

All help is GREATLY appreciated! I am so thankful I can count on the expertise of this group.

Further more, he is a non-jeweler located in California. I live in New Jersey. What would you guys do? I believe I can save a great value, but I would also risk being ripped off.

I think I can buy it for $3000. Is this a good deal or is it not worth the risk?

It is a shame (laughable but not funny) that the vendor told you it was worth 10000....and that you could have it for 5000. GIVE ME A BREAK. It's a shame that he's trying to take advantage of you.....There is little chance that the stone has decent crown info....if you do to dirtcheapdiamonds, you'll see that for that not so hot cut quality, it would be about 4200. Do yourself a favor and become familiar with the gemappriasers cut grade charts which are a good starting point to finding a good stone and seeing what value you're getting. Also, find another vendor...

wait- is the setting included?

oops. I misread your posts! For $3000 yes, it's a great deal for that stone...if you like that stone!

As for getting ripped off, can't help you there...b/c I don't know anything about the vendor...

what do you mean he is a non-jeweler...is this a classified ad? A friend of a friend? And he wants money wired first....I don't think so...that's my opinion....but best of luck...
