So a few of you have been helpful on previous posts about what diamond to look for on a US$5k budget and now I have it down to two...

I guess my big question is will I be able to tell the difference between a D and an F colour with my naked eye.

I also want to know whether the fact that these diamonds are NOT H+A will make any difference from how it looks in real life once it is set (I don''t care what it looks like in a microscope from underneath) - giving up the H+A fcator seems to have really helped get me under teh 5k price point

Please rate these rocks so I can decide which one to get for my considerably better half - just casting a cote will help but reasons wuld be even better!

Depends on if they are eye-clean or not. I looked at a D SI2 before. I could see the clouds in that one very clearly, maybe ''cuz the color is so white (D)

I heard that if you''re colour sensitive, you can kinda tell the difference.

We can really only evaluate the first stone since there is no info on the second stone. The numbers on the first
stone look good. You can request an idealscope image to be sure (post it).

Like beezygal said, ask james allen if it is eye-clean to your standard.

Are you very color sensitive? If this stone is not eye-clean I would drop the color to a G and bring the clarity
up to a VS2.

Do you have the F/Si2 on hold because it says it is not available. If you want to give us your budget and what
specs you would like we can see what we can find.

I would also drop color a little to get better clarity. I think F SI1 would be good, or G VS2. Both of those stone would look WHIIIITE to the naked eye.

H&A adds a certain look to the facet structure, but unless you are a diamond afficionado yo uare unlikely to notice the difference as long as you pick a stone with good numbers.

My budget is US$5k after PS discount and wire discount

I picked high colur grades for that pricepoint because when my gf and I went to Tiffany to compare different diamonds I could tell the difference even between stones that were one colour apart and easily when they were two grades apart (although I had to look side on I couldn''t tell at all from above)

My understanding was that clarity only makes a visible difference to the naked eye once you go below SI2 and into the I diamonds - neither my gf or I are worried about "defects" than can only be seen with a microscope

We don''t care about H and A either.

I have requested the reports for this one

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1294391.asp

and I have requested that a gemologist tell me whether the stone is "eye clean" or not...

Is there anything else I should do? because at the moment my instinct was that if this stone was "eye clean" I would pull teh trigger

Post the info on this diamond when you get it then we can go from there.

We have to make sure its a well cut diamond first...like lorelei said, post all the info and we''ll go from there.

what do you all think of this

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1277789.asp

it''s another possiblity for me and the numbers and report are already posted online

Is there anyway to tell if this stone is "eye clean" from this info or is that something I have to ask the gemologist at JA?

Absolutely no way to tell if the diamond is eyeclean from the report, you will have to ask one of the gemologists at JA to inspect the stone for you. Personally I would pass on this diamond anyway as it is showing definite leakage in the loupe image probably because of the "steep deep" angles.
