Hi all,

The more and more research I do, the more and more confused I become!

I am getting ready to get a custom ring, necklace, earrings made and am trying to pick a center stone I want as the base. But the more research I do, the more shapes I find. The more shapes I find, the more modified shapes of the shapes I find. I have seen links or threads to topics similar to this topic, but many are dated from long ago.

Could anyone post any other shapes I am missing and/or links to what these shapes look like. Many look similar or the same to me (radiant and princess, for example). I want to make sure I see all possibilities before I get my set made.

These are the cuts I have seen so far - am I missing any?

Asscher
Square Cut
Emerald
Radiant
Princess
Old Miner
Marquis
Round
Oval
Pear
Heart
Cushion
Jubilee
Old European Cut
Tiffany Patented Legacy cut

Also, please elaborate if there are modified shapes to one of these shapes (Cushion, for example, seems to have rounded, squared, cushette, etc. I am so confused!)

I would like to also know of links that have the *pencil drawing* of the shapes - sometimes to me that is easier to see the intended shape than pictures of the actual diamond.

Thanks in advance!

You seem to be way too cerebral about a decision that is usually more visceral and immediate, IMO. Why dont you just go shopping in real life and start trying things on and see what catches your eye and THEN choose a basic shape and decide what variation, if any, on that shape you would like. It doesn''t make any difference if you love a photo online of a shape that looks crappy on your hand, neck, ears, right? And the only way to know what will look good on you is to go try on things in person.

There''s way too many branded cuts to list them all just so you have a list of them. Choose what shape you want, then see if there are any specialty cuts of that shape and if so, do you even like them? If it were me, I''d stick to a well cut basic shape rather than some ''in vogue'' special branded cut in any shape, but that''s just me.

Sparkle - I understand your concerns! It''s a tough choice. So many options, all different, all beautiful! It''s very overwhelming! I unfortunatley am no help becuase I can''t even decide what I want fo rmy center stone but I just wanted to let you know you aren''t alone and good luck with your purchase!
