Hi. I thought I had found my future diamond in a 1.31ct, D color, IF marquise, with no fluorescence, 63.8 D, 54 T, no culet, thin to medium faceted girdle, VG polish, G symmetry, measurements 10.71 x 5.91 x3.77 mm.
It seemed to have a minimal bowtie, UNTIL I placed it next to 1.17 and 1.35 ct stones, with much of the same characteristics, except that these latter two had bigger bowties. HOWEVER, these latter bowties seemed to blend in better overall because the two diamonds looked "darker"; my diamond seemed to be "whiter" than the other two, but the bowtie seemed more pronounced in this "white" stone than in the others. Why does my diamond appear "whiter", and should I pick a "darker" stone because the bowtie blends in better?
Thanks for your help in advance!

Hm... I am not sure what you mean by "darker". I assume that you do nor refer to color since you say that the diamonds had "much the same characteristics". Then, I guess "darker" they were because the tips of those other diamonds were not able to reflect as much light as yours. So, you do have the best cut out there. Your diamond does seem exceptional. Yeah, marquises have bow-ties, but a proper setting should be able to hide the undesirable efect into oblivion. The question for the jeweler in this case is: what setting do you recommend to mask the bowtie in a marquise? He might suggest larger side-stones (such as trilliants with a side large enough to match the bowtie sone and add their neighboring sparkle) or a tighter mounting (such as bezel, althrough it is rare the jeweler who would willingly condemn himself to the labors of making a bezel or semi-bezel for a marquise). Good Luck! Great choice!
