I'm trying to find the PERFECT diamond for my sweetheart and I'm having to decide between two stones from different jewelers. I've listed to two below along with how I'm weighing the pros and cons.

A) 1.82, F, SI1, H&A, 3X (cut, polish, symmetry) GIA
Price: $16,000

Pros:
+Carat Weight, Color & Clarity as I want it
+Price
+Inclusion are off to the side, no black
+Pavillion Angle: 41.0
+Crown Angle: 34.0
+Depth: 61.4%
+Girdle: Med
+Flouro: None

Cons:
-After looking at GIA cert, it shows the crown percentage to be less than ideal (14%). Typically it should be 15-16%, but this seems a bit low and may not qualify as a "brilliant diamond"\
-Table is 58%
-Online vendor (trusted)

B) 1.73, F, SI1, H&A, 3X, GIA
Price: $15,300

Pros:
+Inclusions are off to the side
+Numbers are perfect
+Pavillion Angle: 41.0
+Crown Angle: 34
+Table: 57
+Crown: 15.5%
+Depth: 61.0%
+Flouro: None
+Girdle: Thin-Med.
+Local Jeweler (very nice and informative)

Cons:
-Less carat weight
-One inclusion is noticable to the eye off to the bottom of the stone

Which would you go for?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

They both look promising, the crown and pavilion angles are the critical factor and these look fine- can you request an ASET or Idealscope image for the online diamond?

The 1.82 won''t be in the dealers hand until Friday, but I can try for the 1.73. But if you had to go based on this info, which would you pick?

I forgot to ask, do you have the diameter measurements for each please?

Thats a hard one to answer about which one I would go for without images, as they are advertised as h&a it isn't possible to judge overall cut precision without hearts and arrows images....Is the jeweller diamond a branded h&a?

I''d eliminate the one with eye visible inclusions.

Just curious, why is crown percentage less than 15-16% considered bad? I''m looking at ones with 14.5%.

I don't think that is a true statement. Who came up with the 'brilliant' diamond comment? I have an AGS0 stone with a crown percentage of 14.7%.

Actually, 14.5 isn''t bad at all. 14, however, isn''t "ideal". If the crown is too shallow, it reduces the brilliance. 14.5-14.7 is actually quite good.

The angles are the critical measurements moreso than the crown height, so these are the most important to concentrate on.

If that noticeable inclusion remains noticeable after the stone is set, I''d pick the 1st. Otherwise, I''d go with the second. But like the rest, I''d look at ASET images 1st before deciding.
