Hi! Just wondering if I could get some expert opinions on this cushion cut diamond I'm helping to source for a friend. From the aset etc... I'm not too sure about this one especially with the greyness under the table. If some of you who are a little more knowledgeable could let me know what you think I'd really appreciate it! Specs are 0.70 F Si1 (eyeclean)

Nope. I’m with you; s/he could do better.

Is this an antique diamond? Or one cut to look like one? The pattern is pretty typical of old mine/old cushions.

This is a modern cut version of a old cushion cut that have lovely performance. You did not post a budget, so I guessed here.

You can buy these through JamesAllen. You need to set the lab to "AGS" and cut to "Ideal". Then, play with the color and clarity.

Thanks so much for the replies! Budget is 4K including the ring.

She just requested cushion cut so I think even the modern faceted would be fine. If anyone has any other suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I'm not too keen on the ones my usual vendor is suggesting, he seems to think it's difficult to find a great cut under 1 carat.

I love the stones rockysalamander has listed above - so dreamy! If those can work within the budget, they won’t be disappointed!

If you would like some additional modern cuts to show your friend, I suggest also looking at some 8-main cushions. They have nice facet patterning without the crushed ice look.

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/0.74-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-sku-4276066 - this one is least expensive but at a H color, it may show its tint a bit too much to suit their tastes.

Thanks for those suggestions Stonewell! I might ask for some ASETs and see how they turn out.

Meanwhile, my vendor has sourced another cushion which I quite like the look of (ASET etc... below) however it is an 0.81 carat I VS1. Would an I be too warm/yellow for a cushion cut diamond of this size or should it still face up white? If anyone could give me their opinion in regards to the ASET etc... I would very much appreciate it :)

imo it's not awful but it's not great either. the middle of the stone is a bit disorganized and not crisp enough for me. What kind of setting is this going in? Would help with figuring out how much of the budget can be used toward the stone.

as you can see from the suggestions above, there are some VERY nice stones in the size range/budget. I just pulled some more i saw in the upper range of the budget, if we need to look at less expensive, there are plenty to choose from.

https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamo...9-Carat-F-Color-SI1-Clarity-Diamond-502360836 on the fence with this one but i like the video

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/0.90-carat-g-color-vs2-clarity-sku-4333235 ASET is on the AGS Cert

Thanks so much for the suggestions! The budget is 4K and going in a simple solitaire platinum or white gold setting so maybe we'd need to set aside 1k for this? If there are any suggestions in the lower price range that would be great too since it should keep things within budget a little more.

Posting a imperfect one from a clarity perspective, but the inclusion is actually pretty clean and this gains you some size. Remember when comparing stones, look at the size in mm (spread) -- ignore carat weight with fancies.

Pretty

But, if you like antique cuts, this would be my choice at 6.33 x 5.56 x 3.67 mm

Thanks again for everyone's help with this. My friend and I like the look of this one. What are your opinions on this and the aset? Or are there better ones suggested above? I'm just trying to find the best cut one in terms of light performance/crispness.

i like the ASET on it (obviously) and for me, this is my favorite along with the .9 G VS2 with the AGS cert.

for settings, these are my favorite on JA:

Thanks Farrahlyn! The .9 G VS2 was my favourite also, however it sold pretty quick!

The H VVS2 I have on hold while waiting for a couple other asets.

My vendor has also come back with a couple more options, AGS Certs with asets below. What are everyone's thoughts on these? Worth considering these or is the aset on the H VVS2 better? It would be easier to just go with the vendor I'm using if the diamonds are great as they're doing the setting also, however this ring is for my best friend who's marrying my cousin so I do want them to have an amazing diamond so happy to source elsewhere if necessary

Hi! Just bumping this thread, need to let vendor know asap if either of those 2 AGS diamonds are suitable. If anyone could chime in with their opinion I'd really appreciate it :)
