I realize I should probably start a thread just on this CAD. I thought I could just change the subject letting everyone know the CAD is there but it didn't work. Here is the link to my other thread about the setting:

So, after all that deliberation, I decided to go with a modified version of the M design at the top of this page. Here are the rings I used for inspiration:

And here is the CAD:

So here are my questions for you all:
1. 10 prongs look okay or should I go to 8?
2. Should I taper the shank in thinner at the top?
3. Should I have them bring in the whole bottom or the basket a little more to create more curvy swoopyness?
4. The little circles. I am thinking of ditching them...I kind of like the more modern look without them. But, if I do keep them Adam said he would throw in little rose cut diamonds. I kind of like that idea too.

Any other thoughts or ideas welcome. I have never looked at CADs before. Adam did stress that the whole thing would be more delicate especially the prongs which would be super tiny claw prongs.

This is something I'm not very good at (ring design), but I like the idea of 8 prongs best.

I also like the idea of the surprise rose cuts- could be cool!

The rest, like i said, I'm not very good with. Sorry.... :blackeye:

I prefer 8 prongs to 10

Just FYI...my design had 8 prongs but the CAD designer Adam works with thought 10 prongs would look best with this design...not sure why...so of course I am nervous to override. Adam stated multiple times that the prongs would be so tiny and delicate you would hardly be able to see them.

I think 8 prongs will be more suitable and not look cluttered.

Wow! That surprises me that everyone is saying 8 prongs. The 10 prong (the first and second in the inspiration pics) was the setting everyone loved. What to do what to do...

I like 8 prongs too and would ditch the little circles.

I'm another 8 prong vote. I also like the idea of a subtle curve/swoop/inverted arch (call it what you will ;)) ) where the shank meets the basket, to give it a more feminine and antique feel to it. If it were my setting, I'd also prefer to have the diamond set a mm lower, rather than the height it is currently at.

As for adding a hidden stone - sometimes, less is more. For this setting - it is a STUNNING elegant and classic look that too much could be suddenly OTT and ruin the clean and sophisticated look you are going for. Just my opinion... :halo:

Okay...so no to 10 prongs...yes to more curve...no to circles.

Anyone else care to agree or dissent? I want to make decisions and tell Adam tomorrow.

Also, here is Mara's

First off, I loooove the design.

I agree with others to stick with the 8 prongs. I would be slightly concerned with the prong overpowering the diamond, even if they are delicate. Plus, going down to 8 prongs will allow the details, especially the "swoops", on the basket to be less cramped.

I personally would leave the little circles on the side, as DS mentioned, many period solitaires had them. Plus I just like the way they looks. ;)) Also, I really love the idea of putting little rose cuts in the circles, I think it would be something unique and gorgeous for your setting!
