Hello PSers! I don’t get to come here too often anymore but I need your help bigtime right now. I know this isnt probably the best place to post this, but I know it will be noticed here and that is what I need. If mods need to move this to a different area, feel free to do so.

My wife and I are expecting our 3rd child in December and recently at our 20 week ultrasound were hit with some hard news. Our baby has a rare (1 in 10,000) and severe congenital heart defect that is going to require multiple open heart surgeries early in childhood. Obviously this is very hard news to receive, and the waiting is the hardest part with all of the unknowns about what the future holds. This has been quite hard for my wife, and I would like to get her a little something to lift her spirits and try to keep her optimistic.

I am hoping you might be able to suggest somewhere I might be able to get a quality customized metal bracelet. As much as I would love to get her something sparkly, we are obviously watching spending with high medical bills looming. I dont want to spend a ton, but I also don’t want to skimp to end up with junk. I want to get something that will have engraving that will last and is made of quality material that wont have her breaking out (she has sensitive skin, though I am not aware of any allergies to particular metals) . I could spend up to a couple hundred dollars on this.

I have seen some stuff on etsy and there are some geared towards congenital heart defect mothers. One message I really liked simply stated “Be strong, heart mama”. I like that message for the outside and will also be wanting to put a bible verse on the inside for her.

If you have any input on designs you like, I’m all ears. Where should I go for something like this to get a quality piece and what type of metal might be best? Thank you SO much and again, if this should be moved please feel free to do so.

First, hugs. I'm sorry to hear about your baby. I hope everything turns out OK.

How about asking JewelsbyGrace to make something like this for you, in your budget: https://www.jewelsbygrace.com/73ct-heart-shaped-diamond-askew-bangle

I wonder if she'd be able to get a small .1-.2 carat diamond and make you something?

The idea of a heart-shaped diamond bracelet sounds really sweet to me

Or how about: https://www.bluenile.com/mini-diamo...h3aQgqWEAQYBCABEgISevD_BwE&click_id=178891632

(Blue Nile works with ebates.com)

I am thinking a gold or platinum bar bracelet with either a heart gemstone set in the bar, or a dangle heart attached to the chain of the bracelet.

Etsy has over 17,000 different options.

Something similar to this, with a heart charm:

There are so many styles & options to choose from. The key is finding something made from quality metals that will last forever.

On a more serious note: bless you both; I cannot imagine the stress and worry this news has created in your lives. You are all in my prayers. *BIG HUGS*

I have no recommendations but wanted to wish the best of luck with your little one. Its amazing what Doctors can do these days but I know it
will be stressful in the meantime. My wishes for you are to stay strong and think positive. We're pulling for you, your wife and especially for things
to go well with your little one.

I wish you knew what her skin allergies were. I read that titanium works for some people with sensitive skin. Also surgical steel? Hopefully some
others with sensitives can give us some clues as to what to try.

Leather bracelets...sort of on the manly side but maybe you could get matching ones to remind you both to stay strong. (tried to find something with no metal)

Edit...braided leather bracelet with each piece representing you, her and the baby.

Thank you all for the ideas and your kind words! Definitely gave me some more possibilities to consider. I picture this as being something she will end up wearing very often because she will love the message and it will be representing a part of our lives that will take center stage for a long time. So as much as I like some of the daintier, feminine looks I want something that will handle lots of wear. What do you all think of this in rose gold?

Or there is this one that I like even more:

This way I can hand write the message for her and I like the nice dark engraving. Just want to make sure it isn't too bulky looking. She is quite petite, but I need it to be big enough to actually get the engraving on. The messages I want to use for her are these:

Outside engraving: "be strong, heart mama"
Inside engraving: "When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. Isaiah 43:2"

I might have to check with the Etsy sellers to see if they can fit the longer inside engraving on some of the smaller, more dainty looking bracelets.

I haven't read through all the thread properly to see the suggestions but I'm so sorry to hear that your baby is poorly. Love your idea, I'm sure it will really boost your wife's spirits. I think the last cuff is lovely, I would try to get something like that but in silver. Bought plain and separately engraved perhaps? Silver is beautiful and durable for long time wear.

I’m sorry to hear about the health challenges your new baby will face. Hugs to you and your wife during this difficult time. I really like the sentiment and thoughtfulness of your idea. I also liked both bracelets you linked on Etsy. You mentioned she is quite petite. Does she own any cuffs that you could measure for sizing purposes? If you are concerned about a cuff being too much you could try something like this style which has an adjustable chain: https://www.etsy.com/listing/79205364/silver-message-jewelry-personalized?ref=shop_home_active_13

I too am very sorry to hear the news about the baby but will be hopeful that with surgery and time he/she will be fine. The bracelets are a beautiful idea and I am sure she will treasure it for many years to come.
