Please help to decide on a diamond for a pendant

dear pricescopers,

I am playing with the idea to purchase a diamond pendant as a present to my mom. She is rather undecided whether she would want a cushion or a round stone.

Could you please advise me what are the pros and cons of having a cushion as a pendant stone? I see mostly round pendants and wonder whether there is any reason why cushions are used so seldom.

Also could you please comment on this stone that I put on hold at James Allen:

Unfortunately ASET is not available on this stone, but I quite like how it looks. Also this specific stone seems to have a decent spread and JA customer support is sure that it would be eye clean.

Last but not least question: could you advise me on a budget friendly option of a pendant setting? Ideally I am looking at something similar to this whiteflash setting but for a cushion stone

Cushions face up smaller than rounds bc of their depth and they have a different type of sparkle to them. I also think that cushions are just not as commonly found in pendants as rounds are so maybe most people don't even consider them. That basket style should be able to accommodate a cushion stone easily (you could ask about this: https://www.jamesallen.com/fine-jew...-basket-solitaire-pendant-mounting-item-60470)

Interestingly this specific cushion seems to have a very similar spread to a round (I took dimensions of the comparable GIA XXX, HCA below 2 round). I just checked it on diamondb

Unfortunately we are overseas and living in different countries so ordering both would not be possible due to the customs clearance issues.

Are there any cushion cut experts who could comment on my choice of the cushion?

You need to put the cushion on hold and provide a link to it. You can use the HCA to find out if
the round is a well cut stone but you need experienced eyes to look at the cushion to tell you
if it is going to be a good performer (and/or aset image).

The round would be the safe way to go if being overseas is an issue.

Edit...it does look like it will be a decent performer. Did you see if you can get an aset?

I think the stone will be a nice performer. If your mom will prefer the cushion shape over a round, I think this is a good way to go given that it also has nice spread!
