Hello all,

Thanks to this forum, I learned about BGD and have purchased a beautiful H&A engagement ring. I need to get the ring resized so I need to send it back from CANADA to USA. How do I go about doing that? Fedex and all other places will not cover more than 1-2k.

Any help is truly appreciated.

Does your Canadian post office insure like the USPS?
Or, call BGD and ask them, they should have experience on this.

Size it locally. I wouldn't go to all that trouble and expense from Canada. What ring is it?

I talked to BGD yesterday and they said that the lifetime warranty is void if I do the adjustment on my side.. thats why I want to send it back. its was a custom ring 1.212 hearts and arrows round on a 4 prong platinum band

Canada post will insure up to 1k

Ask Gavin's people to sell you a FedEx return shipping label and send it to you or send you the link to print it? Would they do that? You'd pay BG for the shipping label. That way, the ring will be fully insured because BG can get full insurance on it.

Wink at High Performance Diamonds has handled shipping that way. I suppose BG Diamonds can do it, too.

Yes, that is how I've handled things w them in the past. Request a shipping label, they mark it "return for repair" and you have to go direct to Fedex and package as per the instructions they will give you, then ship back. Its an overnight shipping rate. They will return it to you and also have it marked "Return for Repair" so you will not be charged any further duty on it when it returns to Canada.

Lesley walked me thru the process by phone, when I did it. Just call and your SA can help you. Good luck!

Thank you all for your suggestions.

So I spoke with BGD and they told me that only the setting is warrantied. my setting is inexpensive, and shipping to BGD to adjust would cost close to $400

its a platinum band, can anyone recommend someone in canada ( Toronto or mississauga ) that can do it locally? the Fiance' loves the ring and she would want it back as soon as possible.

Is the ring too large or too small. If it's too large, it may be possible just to add sizing beads rather than have the ring sized down. This is often a good option because women's hands tend to fluctuate with age, pregnancy, and even just from cold to warm months. Sizing beads can be adjusted or removed much more easily than having the ring resized over and over again. Of course if the ring is too small then it must be resized and hopefully someone will have a bench recommendation for you.

Hey OP
If I remember correctly Toronto is close to the US border, can you cross the border and then mail it USPS Registered Insured from the US?
Will that work?

Hi there. I just had a vintage ring re-sized through Knar Jewellers in Oakville (close to Mississauga) and they did an amazing job! I have had other repairs done through them (aside from purchases) and they have always done great work - and they seem to charge a good 'market' price - neither too cheap nor too expensive! Hope this helps. (They are a family run business and have a store in Yorkville I think).

Yeah, a plain 4 prong platinum setting does not need to go to BG for resizing. Find a high end jeweler and have it done there. There is a better possibility of them having a good bench. I assume you have the whole ring insured, right?

Hi Canadagirl,

thank you for the recommendation! these guys use lasers to do the resizing which is what I am looking for, they'll do it while we wait at their guelph location, and will appraise it while we wait at the oakville locations :) going down from 6 to 4 will cost $175

Thank you so much
