My girlfriend and I have been dating for the past eight months. We wanted to get engaged, but decided that since we are both in college, it might be better to wait until we are financially stable. Thus, we decided to get promise rings for each other. I have read conflicting opinions on whether promise rings should even resemble engagement rings, but it seems that the general consensus is that it depends on the woman. I am inclined to believe that my girlfriend wants a diamond ring. If I could find a diamond ring in my price range, that would be fantastic. Otherwise, what else would you guys recommend? I am planning on giving her this on our 1-year anniversary (in four months).

Budget: Preferably <$300, but can possibly extend to $500
White gold or platinum
Nothing that resembles a high-school/childish type promise ring

Here is a ring that gets recommended as a promise ring sometimes, though it''s silver, not white gold. Good luck!

Tiffany promise ring

Oh, or maybe this: diamond band

Bluenile has a lot to choose from. The only downside is that she might look married with this. (Unless you want her to

Promise ring is a great idea. I got my GF one after 9 months. The delicate diamond ring cost me $250. It doesn''t look like an e-ring nor a wedding band...cuz that''s just the way I wanted it. Good luck with your search!

Your situation sounds similar to mine. My bf gave me "commitment ring" 3 years ago and since then it''s turned into a "promise of engagement after college ring". I love it and I think his budget was the same as yours. Mine is white gold with two diamonds that are stacked vertically. I really love the look because they are diamonds and sparkle a lot but it doesn''t look like and engagement ring in any way.

That would be my advice, go for something with diamonds but something that won’t be confused for an engagement ring. I like the first one Siamese Kitty posted but it depends on your taste.

Thanks to everybody for the suggestions. I think I have decided on purchasing a diamond ring. Also, $300 is the official price ceiling, I don''t think I can afford much more.

I will appreciate any new input!

here''s my suggestion;

http://www.shopnbc.com/14K_White_Gold_Diamond_Floral_Ring/J313325.aspx?storeid=1&track=590&cm_re=SearchList-_-N-_-N&page=LIST&prop=Special%20Collections|335&prop=Galerie%20de%20Bijoux|590&sc=1

it''s $383 - over your new ceiling price, but i dont think you''ll get much for $300. if it must be below 300, i''d go with the aquamarine in silver posted earlier.

good luck - let us know what you decide

I really like this band and the tiffany-style rings! If I don't find anything else that is cheaper and attractive, I might have to fork out the money.

I would appreciate any other suggestions from you experienced Pricescopers!

Overstock 3-Stone Ring

This ring has great reviews on Overstock, but I'd like to get some second opinions from the professionals!

I bought a pair of earrings from Overstock a few years back, the quality of the diamonds are better suited to industrial drill bits rather than jewelry. The diamonds look like crap and are peppered with carbon spots, blech!!

(didn''t have a loupe or any diamond knowledge when I bought them, else I would have returned them.)

I would go with the Tiffany or one of the PS recommended vendors.

What if you went with something more antique or vintage...

I found a large selection of lesser-priced rings at http://www.antiquejewelrymall.com/. I don''t have any history of purchasing at this site so I can''t speak for the quality but at the price you''re looking for I don''t think you''ll find too many options.

And definitely stay away from that overstock.com ring. it looks horrible in my unprofessional opinion....

zales actually had a lot of pretty rings in your price range.

this is also pretty and on sale putting it in your range.

What I did for my gf''s promise ring was get a ring that looked exactly like the engagement ring she wanted, but instead of a diamond in the center I put the birthstone of our anniversary month (amethyst in my case) . Doing that will not only keep you under budget since you dont have to buy a larger diamond, but it will also be very sentimental. just my 2cents. This is the ring I got her from overstock:

http://www.overstock.com/Jewelry-Watches/14k-White-Gold-Amethyst-and-Diamond-Ring/2900290/product.html

btw, she LOVED it! :)
