I had it cleaned at the jewelers about a month ago. It''s really hard to explain. Almost like it doesn''t have sharp facet edges but maybe ever so slighly smoothed down which I would think would be bad. It''s always looked like that. I''m going to get my diamond back and take pictures outside of the setting. This is the oddest thing. I reallly appreciate all of your insight into this.

Thanks for the heads up Storm.
I must admit I’m a little bit confused by the question at hand so I’m going to make a quick summary. Correct me if I’m wrong.
You’ve got a ring pictured a couple of times above containing a 0.57ct ‘ideal’ cut stone that you love and that shows great fire. You want to upgrade to something that looks as good as the one you have but that’s bigger.
You’re considering buying a new stone in the 0.90ct range and have seen a couple that didn’t impress you, one of which is pictured.
You’ve seen all of the stones together and had the opportunity to compare them side-by-side. The jeweler currently has possession of everything and is waiting for an answer from you about what you want to do.
Is all of this correct? OK, here’s a few thoughts:
1) Don’t buy that stone. It doesn’t trip your fancy and that alone is a reason to say no. We can debate about what the issues may be but that one is simply not your next diamond. Have the jeweler keep on looking. All of the rest of this is purely an academic discussion.
2) I’m not going to take the time to do a diamcalc model on either one but Strm’s looks pretty good for the first one and it looks like a fine rock. Are both the .90 and 0.83 GIA graded? If not, where did the crown and pavilion angles come from? If so, what was the GIA cut grade? Do you have a grading report on the 0.57?
3) Make sure that all of the stones are clean. A little bit of finger grease on a stone goes a long way to making it look bad in a side by side comparison and, in particular, it tends to kill the prismatic effect that makes them look like they’re on fire. Since this is exactly what you're looking for, be a bit OCD about the cleaning.
4) I think you’re misremembering about the rounded facet junctions. The stone in the photo has nice sharp facet edges (which is what you want by the way). Do you see what you’re calling rounded edges in the stone in the photo?
5) Memory is a funny thing and you should always be careful about comparing what you see with what you remember seeing. Lighting in different environments makes a big difference and your brain tends to adjust things to fit into your mindset. Anything other than a side-by-side comparison under the same lighting isn’t really a fair test. Overhead fluorescent lights with the cheap bulbs tend to make a stone look flat and monochromatic for example while other lights, like lamps in your home can make them look much more multicolored. Colorful things in the room and even what you are wearing also have a big effect on this.
