So L's chrysoberyl came in the mail today. I like the stone. It has so many moods, which i wasnt expecting. in the direct sunlight it has a much greener almost hunter color.

Anywho, I had thought i wanted to stay away from yellow gold as i thought it would emphasize the yellow. well seems to be the oposite (see pics) the yellow seems to make the green stand out.

now I just love the way the color plays with yellow gold. And as she would accept yellow gold if we were buying antique and had limited options, but Im not buying antique, and i know she would prefer white. I will be setting it in yellow gold basket, but will that be enough??? as long as the metal holding the stone is yellow, will it be good enough? I dont want it to look muted...

A yellow gold basket should suffice to retain more of the yellow color of the stone. If it were all white metal, including the basket, then yes, the stone would look muted in color. HTH.

The plan is to set it this way (they said they would replace it with an EC basket)

HTH?

Nice,
I have a round diamond cut chrysoberyl in a similar setting, but all yellow gold. It's an antique style with a square head like that. It should be very pretty.

Since the basket is fairly substantial, I think having it as the only yellow metal will be sufficient. I, too, found that yellow gold brought out the green best in my chrysoberyl.

maybe i'm the only one who prefers a non yellow basket but i feel like it distracts from the warm / cool contrast. yes it brings the stronger color but i love paleness!

I vote for a yellow basket for the center stone, with white gold everywhere else.

My chryso has yg around the stone and everything else is silver. I love the yg around the stone. That would be my vote.

Can I see a pic of that again packrat??

What do you guys think of the stone in general. I'm just worried it'll get lost in white metal :/

Here's on on the cloudy windowsill

I'm certainly not a chrysoberyl expert but I love the color and the shape of the stone with the extra large corners. It will looks fantastic in the setting too!

Thank you for saying that. I'm so concerned about how L will like it so its good to get some reassurance. I'm just so worriedbitll get lost in white metal. But that's what she wants so that's what well do.

Update

Setting is in. Considering the price I tink quality is great. I'd be happy to wear it every day. If I ever get an oec or avr I'm going to put it in this setting from DZ.

Needs to be set, but I think it looks great. It reminds me of that celeb setting with the brown EC

It's perfect! Definitely suitable for an e-ring.

ETA: who is DZ? where is this setting from?

It does look quite nice, and I would never think that this was a "bargain" ring so to speak.

Hi Niel - I saw that you ended up returning the chryso, have you found a replacement center stone yet?

oh dont remind me ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;( ;(

I believe we have found a solution, though i wont be sharing it on PS.

There was a lovely radient yellow jsut posted on Gem Trader, but my BIL wasnt digging the yellow, so he passed on that

Because you're not allowed to share it?

Sorry to hear it, and I assume you can't share the resolution at the request of the vendor, but I hope you are still able to come back and share the final product.

If you are still looking for a stone someone was selling a Richard Wise garnet that looked like it might fit on the FB group, I know you said red was an option, although garnet isn't ideal for an everyday ring it was only $75 if memory serves me, so perhaps it can be a temporary stand-in if it takes a while to find a chryso or spinel.

I am sorry that the chrysoberyl went back and that the saga will remain unfinished for those who've helped / are following it.
