I think I may have found the one, but I want some advice from all of you pros! Here are the specs:

2.01 carat
F
SI1
Princess cut
polish: very good
symmetry: very good
7.18 X 7.01 X 4.79
depth % - 68.3%
table % - 74%
girdle - thin to medium

comes with an EGL certification. I have heard that EGL cert''s can sometimes be off by 1-2 grades in color ... and sometimes off by clarity as well. However, I have received pictures of the diamond, and it seems to be very clean. The only inclusion is a feather near the table. There are not any dark inclusions, which was very important to the future Mr. Fish Out of Water!

I was going for the largest size (preferable around 2 carat), the highest color, and an eye clean stone. Of course, I wanted the stone to have that "fire," which I have been told by the sales rep that this stone has. The company I may buy this stone from has a return policy in case it does not meet my expectations.

The cost of this diamond is rather pricey (for my budget) at $10,500. However, I think it is a very good price for this stone.

Any thoughts? I want to show you some pics as well. I attached a pic to this message and I will attach some more if it works. The first pic was taken inside and the next one I will attach was taken outside.

I want to know the following:
(a) whether any of you think this is a good price for the stone;
(b) whether a table feather poses any concerns;
(c) any other thoughts you may have for a newbie like me that is nervous about making such a large purchase!

I also plan on having it independently appraised as soon as I get it.

I have been researching this stone on my own compared to various online vendors and it seems like a quality stone, with a reaosonable price, that has a certificate. However, being that I am a complete rookie I wanted to ask all of you for your input.

Thank you so much!

I'm no expert on diamonds but after torturing myself and doing all the research I could not feel comfortable buying a EGL cert. I personally didn't feel their certs would guarantee I was getting my money's worth. If it helps here is the the post I made a few months ago and the suggestions users gave me that geared me to making a decision on a stone that I know I will appreciate forever.

After it was all said and done CUT was the most important characteristic that I wanted, then the size I wanted, then I wanted eye clean, and whatever color I could afford to stay in budget.

Hope this helps, but did you try putting the dimensions into the cut calculator?

Thank you for the quick response! I know there are potential issues with EGL, that is why I am comfortable with the price even if it is actually an H color (whcih is the lowest I would like to go, and would mean the EGL cert is 2 grades off). Plus, I plan on having it independently appraised.

For me, I am most concerned with any potential structural issues with a table feather ... and its impact on the price. I spoke with the rep (I haven''t asked her the structural question) and she said that the feather is very difficult to see from the top unless you know what you are looking for. I am guessing it is SI1 because a table feather?

Also, I ran the numbers in the AGA "do it yourself" cut grading tool and it came back B+. This seemed to be a pretty solid rating for AGA standards.

Finally, the rep stated that she normally is not as fond of princess cuts as opposed to round cuts becuase many princess cuts do not have the same fire as a properly cut round (her own personal preference) but in this case, she has this diamond in hand, and says it has exceptional fire and brilliance.

Here is another pic for anyone that can weigh in. Anymore advice from anyone ... please weigh in!

Ask them for an ASET image of the stone.

I know this is not typical "Pricescope" but sometimes you just have to go by looks. I think some of the romance is lost when you focus too hard on the numbers. If you''re willing to pay that amount, and you llike the look of it.. GET it, give it and enjoy.

It depends on what you want, this looks like a more commonly cut Princess rather than a top cut. Ask if you can get an ASET image for this diamond. The table is greater than the depth, usually the reverse is preferred - if you like the diamond as it is EGL get that appraisal and make the sale final on it checking out to your satisfaction in all respects ( and get that in writing).
