I am in love with the Tiffany Etoile. OK, I said it, and I don't care! But I really don't want my boyfriend to pay the crazy premium. There's a lovely .37 carat Etoile I can get ahold of for a very good price, but I wonder if the shank is too thin (height from finger AND width along length of finger, if that makes any sense) next to the Etoile wedding Band.

Kats has a gorgeous wedding set, with .54 carat center stone. Does that larger shank look better with the Etoile wedding band? I tend to like that a bit better, but for the price of the smaller Etoile, it may be worth going for it. Please let me know what you guys think. You are all so particular. Asking a friend's opinion is not the same as asking PSers. They won't see the difference, LOL! I guess I need some reassurance. For comparison, I wear a size 5.25-5.5 (Kats' ring, I believe, is a 5.25).

The smaller diamond (and, thus, thinner shank, height-wise ans width-wise):

aaaaaaand, Kats' ring

P.S. Time is of the essence... I will need to purchase the smaller ring by tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks so much in advance!

How about getting the .37 Etoile and putting it with a thinner, eternity band? I know what you mean about the proportions. I would think that you would want your e-ring to be more substantial than the w-band. Is that what you are asking?

Yes, Upgrade, that is what I am asking. I have seen that size ring with an eternity band and the proportions seems better, but I''ve been in love with the Etoile band-ring since I first saw it over 8 years ago. Also, I''m left-handed, and a glove-wearer at work, so the smooth ring works best for me. Tough call, I guess. I love that the smaller ring can be purchased right now at 1/6 the price of the retail value of the slightly larger ring (heck, I can get it for less that the Etoile Band Ring''s retail price!), but I''m not sure if the proportions will irk me.

Thank you so much for your input!

Is the Etoile band only available in one width? Does it have to be a Tiffany? I bet any jeweler could copy that style but in a thinner width.

QueenG, here is Lumpkin's set. I have always loved it. I don't know if it is an Etoile (I'm not that familiar with Tiffany), but I think this is a great example of what I was talking about. But I know how you can want something for 8 years. I guess your best bet, if Tiffany only makes one width, is to have a custom band made. I know a lot of people have had good experiences with Quest Jewelers in Virginia and Knox Jewelers for custom work.

All good advice and I second the vote to not wear a really substantial wedding band next to the er. The question for you is which one to change? If the .37 is a really good buy, and you like the look of it, I would modify the wedding band to fit in.

I had a copy of the etoile band made for my wedding band! It's 3mm (Tiffany's is 4mm, I believe) and has 10 stones scattered, ranging from half a point to 1.5 points.

I purchased a plain comfort fit platinum band and had a local jeweler burnish the diamonds in. The total cost was $700 including labor, which, IMO, is a steal.

Here's a pic:

And with my e-ring, which is 2.5 mm at the thickest point, tapering to 2mm toward the diamond:

EBRee, that is one beautiful wedding set!

QueenG,. I don''t know if I''m too late but I love the set you posted! I''m in the minority but I like the wider wedding band next to the e-ring. There''s a gal called Sarita on here who wears the Etoiile band next to a thinner emerald cut. Looks amazing:
