I’m not sure if what I want done is even possible and I feel horrible and that I’m not properly communicating the right terminology to achieve what I want.
Also, I’m not a jeweler or ring designer so I’m not sure what I’m asking is even possible.

I found a gorgeous, breathtaking David Klass ring that I fell in love with—for the most part (sapphire ring pictured below). The only thing I wasn’t keen on was the fleur de lis.

I wanted a very open basket set at cathedral height. Below, I was able to photoshop the basket that I want onto the DK ring.

The second photo is the rendering that he sent me.

A few things:

- I’m struggling what to do in terms of prongs. 4? I think i like the idea of 4, double claw as long as they are small enough and don’t stick out like a sore thumb. My stone barely faces up as 1 carat.

- The original basket that I sent him had 6 prongs which I’m not opposed to either. I just don’t want to dwarf my stone any more than it already is!

- the rendering D57DA4F5-3237-4BE8-B7C1-F8BFEB53A71D.jpegdoesn’t seem to have the openness in the basket that I’m looking for, so do i just go for the 4 double claw and cal it a day? I’m not sure if the side stonescan be assembled on a six prong.

Any help would be so appreciated. David has been so patient with me, but I want to make sure I’m communicating what I want effectively because we have been goingback and forth for. Week or so and I don’t want to waste his time not knowing if I’m asking the impossible or not!

I could be very wrong. I hope someone else who gives better advice comes along soon. But could it be less open because your stone is smaller? I felt this way when looking at CADs for my half carat engagement ring. How big is the inspiration ring stone?

Anyway I think it looks pretty! I think it would be a lovely ring :)

I’m not sure what the size of the inspiration photo is. Def larger than what I have.

I’m terrible at this part, sorry.

Most of what you brought up is personal preference. Sometimes I do claw prongs, sometimes tabby prongs etc. just never bloby prongs.

Also, I don’t mind 6 prongs on a smaller stone. I think it gives more symmetry, but I’m not sure how that applies this design that you love.

Would you consider just a 4 prong (not a double claw)? It might open it up a bit more. A 6 prong might also make the stone look larger.

i would consider four, but I really want to highlight the round shape because i currently have a radiant halo so having a round ring to switch out is appealing.

I have had the same thought about 6 prongs-I’ve wondered if it might appear larger if I choose that.

The thing is I really do like the claw so maybe I would do six claws. I feel like with the six claws you can make them very thin but still have the security you need for the stone (I am kind of rough on myjewelry)

here is the updated CAD

Not sure how much help this will be, but I recently had a diamond reset from a double 4 prong into a 6 prong. It does look bigger because it looks more open and you can see more of the diamond. Doesn't seem like that would have been the case, lol. The 6 prongs on mine are also thinner than the 4 were, and petal shaped, so that adds to the open look.

Do you have a photo to share? It sounds pretty??

Nothing that would show the difference in the way they looked, but this is what the setting is like. Not like a custom setting or anything, but I like it for a basic setting. t cads3.jpgs

That is SO pretty!! I am trying to achieve a similar basket. I love it!! Thank you for your input! It definitely has helped!

I'm glad. And of course the diamond doesn't sit that far down. Or rather, the prongs aren't that long. I just love the openness of that kind of prong.

Yes!!! The openness of the prongs is what I keep stressing but it doesn’t seem to be translating to the CAD designs that I keep getting back. :(.

Well, I'm horrible at reading cads, but do know that the metal is less so once the ring is done. Maybe even a 4 petal head? I know JuliaBJewelry on etsy does lovely lotus settings with 4 prongs, just to give you an idea.

I liked the first overall, because it is elegant and timeless, but prefer it with the 6 prongs from the second. All of the other additional added changes in the second do not appeal to me. I also think it will be rounder looking with 6 prongs. Once it gets busier the DK pieces I see on here start looking a little thrown together.
