First let me say I have been lurking for a few months now and I have learned more than I thought I ever would about diamonds. I am pretty close to buying a diamond from goodoldgold.com and am now looking for a setting to go with it.

My girlfriend and I found this setting a few months ago and we both love it. It is listed as the Platinum Victorian style ring with matching wedding band at http://www.canadadiamonds.com/custom_canadian_diamond_rings.htm

We have not seen this setting anywhere else. Has anybody ever seen this ring anywhere else? The reason I ask is when I emailed them for additional pictures of this setting they could only find one in their database and it looks nowhere near as delicate as the setting in the original picture on their website. I am not completely sure that the setting on their website was originally made by them. I will try and post the additional picture they sent me in a reply post below.

I have searched google endlessly for victorian/edwardian ring settings and cannot find this setting anywhere I would appreciate any help.

Thanks.

This is the additional photo they sent me. I don''t think it looks even close to the setting in the original. The first one is delicate while this one is thick and chunky. I am afraid of ordering the setting from them and having it turn out like the one in the second picture and not like the one in the first picture. If anybody could find the setting from the original picture at any other website I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks.

Thanks.

You''re right. It looks like the first setting but 10lbs heavier! I haven''t seen this, but it looks like something from Fay Cullen (faycullen.com).

Good luck,

This could just be my aging eyesight, but to me, it looks like the same setting ... just, the same setting holding a stone that''s half the size of the one that it was designed for! I second Angeline''s vote for Fay Cullen as a source ... I''m *positive* that I''ve seen that setting on here before, quite possibly on a thread from a guy who was looking for an antique-y setting for his GF. Will see if I can hunt it down ....

Maybe this post will lead you to it...

"Katrina_33 posted this awhile ago (hope you don''t mind the repost!)...there are some great links:

Hi All,

I tried to add these links into the thread in the FAQ section, but it wouldn''t let me! Anyhow, since I spent so much time putting them together, here they are... Lots of antiques and antique style mountings. Maybe someone with access to that section can add em to that thread?

Why don''t you just ask them to give you the delicate look from the first picture, as close to identical as possible?? Is there some other reason you don''t want to go with this company that you''re not telling us about? If you''ve already found exactly what you want on this site, I really don''t understand why you wouldn''t just make those specifications to them when discussing your order.

I would guess that these are two different options for this setting, and they wanted to show you both. Likely, one was the original and the other was made custom for another client who requested tweaks made.

Thank you so much Chase035. I actually went through all your links today and couldn''t find anything really close to the setting I like. The solomon brothers one took forever. Whew.

Musey: I did email the company asking if they could definitely make the ring look delicate like the first picture, but am still waiting for their response. The main reason why I am hesitant is that they only have 2 low quality pictures of this particular custom ring when most custom jewelers have multiple high quality pictures of their rings from multiple angles. The rings also look so different in the 2 pictures which just doesn''t seem right. I just want to make sure the first picture is not some original setting made by someone else and the second picture is their attempt to copy it. They also want the money up front and don''t allow refunds on custom rings so I don''t want to spend that much money and end up being disappointed.

Thanks again everybody.

After months of searching, I finally found the setting this morning on this exact website at link:
https://www.pricescope.com/forum/hangout/updated-celebrity-rings-t44492-240.html

It''s Debra Messing''s ring from Excalibur Jewelers. I am guessing it must be a real antique and not something they are actually making currently. So my hunch that canadadiamonds.com was just copying someone else''s design was true. I am so happy we decided not to have them make our setting.

The funny thing is I had the diamond sent to Leon Mege just yesterday for his simple solitaire "classic." Anyways, I feel like I have closure now.

Thanks again everybody.

When I used to go to London, in the 90''s, to buy second hand jewelry, I often came upon virtually identical mountings like the solitaire you like. They were common there and rather delicate. The design was not particularly popular here back then. Usually we paid for the diamond center and figured the mountings for metal value. Fashion changes.

COpies are made heavier since they are new and not partly worn away from previous years of use. Buy a new ring today and over decades it will thin out and become more delicate, too. If you buy a well worn ring now, and wear it for decades it will be worn out, not just thinner. You can''t and shouldn''t make a new ring so thin that it lacks durability for daily use. It is a fine line that must not be crossed. I suggest to go for enough substance in the new mounting that it will wear well for years to come.
