Hi everyone! I have been a longtime lurker of PS & have just recently decided after seeing a few beautiful ovals that I will be upgrading my engagement ring from a J VVS2 RB to an oval that I will be setting in a halo (hopefully the Maytal Hannah halo) I think this will give me the finger coverage & sparkle that I desire. And perhaps after this I won't want to upgrade again :D

What I am looking for : 1.5-2ct, I-J colour, atleast SI1 and with NO bowtie! All the ones i seem to find have a pronounced bowtie... Can anyone help me find this?

Thanks in advance!

You didnt mention your budget.

Edit...there are bow-ties and then there are BOW-TIES so not exactly sure what you mean by NO bow-tie because almost all (well ok
a lot) of ovals have bow-ties. There are 4 mains that have minimal bow-ties but they IMO, are a bird of a different feather (not to
my liking but maybe to yours?) Anyway, I will post a few that IMO are nice and have minimal bow-ties.

4 main...can you see the difference in the faceting pattern? This isnt the best example but these tend to have less of a bow-tie than
an 8 main oval.

If you look at the different faceting patterns then look at the GIA reports you may be able to narrow down which you prefer. BTW,
when you narrow specs down to much (like I/J) you start to limit your possibility of finding a nice looking oval. Fancy cuts like ovals
are not like rounds where you can always find a well cut stone with specific specs. Ovals dont work that way. You have to go and
find the WELL CUT OVALS and then hopefully they fit your specs close enough to be acceptable.

I see you have now posted your budget so most of these wont work for you but I'm going to post this anyway because it has
some other information in it.

Thanks so much for all of your finds!! Now that I am on my computer I will go through these all :)

Did you happen to see any decent ones on BlueNile? My original diamond was from there and I could trade it in...

Hi Care73 - may I make a suggestion? Give Yekutiel at ID Jewelry a call. He can take a look at some stones for you that are located in NYC and he is very good at finding what you want within your budget. Since you want a specific type of oval it may be best to work with someone such as Yekutiel since he can inspect the stones for you. He can provide photos and other necessary images to help with your decision. Just a thought. Wishing you the best and hope you find the oval of your dreams!! :wavey:

You will get a better response if you phone him. Also, tell him that you are a PS'r and he came highly recommended.

Blue Nile does not have pictures of their stones so you can't but fancy cut stones from them. You really need pictures, asets and videos
For fancy cut stones. Bluenile usually works fine for rounds.

Hello,

I know this is slightly over your budget, but after looking I saw this one and it seems almost tailor made for what you are looking for. Good performance with ASET, IS, and probably one of the bigger stones for price range. Color rentention in fancy shapes is a bit worse than it is in RBs, So you might have to bump up 1 or 2 steps in color, seems to be well cut overall with no bowtie. And big as it seems you are making size a priority.

P.S. I know there is no established grading criteria for fancy shape cut, but I find that enchanted diamonds "cut score" does a very good job of separating poorly cut trash from some nice diamonds. They get a little flak b/c of their proprietary cut grading system, but more often than not, I find it is works very well, and can serve as a vetting tool to differentiate between diamonds. Of course this is no replacement for imagery, but used as an elimination tool it a tool it is worth consideration IMHO.

It works by inputting the GIA certificate number of any diamond you find on any site. And I'm not ashamed to admit I utilized this heavily on my search for my engagement ring diamond.

Have you posted your ring in the Show me the bling Forum? Would love to see it. What did you end up getting?
