Hi Psers,

Please help me find an oval diamond. I have a budget of 7,000 for the ring and diamond total. Would like to hopefully get the ring set and diamond from the same vendor. ERD is recommended alot on this forum and I found this diamond on there, let me know what you think. I would love to set it in a halor or double halo, possibly in rose gold.

The link to the diamond: http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/1.36-carat-j-si2-excellent-oval-cut-diamond-gid-157460.html

1.36 Carat J-SI2 Excellent Oval Cut Diamond
Depth: 61.70%
Table: 56.00%
Girdle:Medium to Medium
Culet: None
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence:Faint
Measurements: 8.60x6.36x3.92 mm

Thanks everyone!

Given the J color you will have to ask Chris or whoever you are working with if there is any visible yellow.
Also have to ask if the diamond is "eye clean" given it is a SI2
Many including myself have been very happy with halo setting from ERD, best of luck.
Edit: If you decide on this diamond you can buy it and have it shipped to you for you look at and have appraised, etc. ERD does have a return policy. If you keep it, ship it back to them for the setting you choose with them.

Thanks WillyDiamond

Yes I've seen J diamonds that face up really white, and also some where the color is masked by the halo.
That brings up another question, if the diamond is J and the diamonds in the halo are usually what color? Would really white diamonds bring out the color in the J diamond? Good tip on the SI2, I will ask if it is eye clean. Otherwise, do the other specs match up..I have heard that I also have to inquire about bowties in the oval diamond.

Thank you for your insight. I will follow up with them. I have not seen any rings in rose gold on their website, not sure if they will be able to work with that. I did not even realize the L/W ratio, I prefer the classic oval look, that definitely would be a lot less chubbier. Do you think 1.4 L/W for a more classic oval look?

Hi Sundance,

Ovals are becoming increasingly popular but are still quite difficult to find because many have been re-cut into cushions to meet to increased cushion demand. You've chosen an excellent setting choice (I am actually working on exactly this for a client right now). The halo will make the stone appear more substantial while the rose gold adds a warm and romantic feel. Be sure to set aside $2,000 - $3,000 for this type of setting.

I have worked with the jeweler from engagementringsdirect.com multiple times and they do not always have in stock the stones posted on their site, so there is a possibility this stone isn't available anymore. But I have listed the pros and cons below:

Pros:
-Although J in color, there is a slight fluorescence which can trick the eye into making the stone appear whiter
-Polish and symmetry are great (this is extremely important)

Cons:
-This stone is an SI2 which means you may be able to see inclusions with the naked eye. Because of this I always recommend viewing the stone in person first. I have seen SI2 stones that look "eye clean" and others that have obvious black inclusions right in the center.

It is also important to understand that ovals come in a range of length to width ratios, some are rounder (or I like to say "chubbier") while others are more elongated. There is no set right or wrong, it's really just a matter of preference. This particular stone falls into the chubbier category with a L/W of 1.35.

Please let me know if you have additional questions or if you would like me to view this stone for you in person as a part of my Gold Package (www.ringconcierge.com/services).

My nephew just went to ERD and it is one thing to find the oval but I believe and I could be wrong but there custom made settings start at $3000.

You are right. I was quoted 2500 for the setting in rose gold or 3000 in platinum. I am adjusting my expectations slightly, I am trying to stay under 4500 for the diamond and now leaning towards rose gold.

Rose gold is stunning.. since i've been following pricescope I've seen so many beautiful rosegold rings.. money is my obstacle :) good luck.. Ovals are beautiful.. I had one once, but the bowtie drove me crazy.. upgraded to a round brilliant... all I can add is to ensure that your bowtie is minimal as it does detract from the beauty of an oval.. best of luck and congratulations.

Do you have a picture of the diamond? The lab report shows an 8 main, and that's a positive sign.
