Please help me find an elongated oval or pear and someone to make the ring

That is nice, but she is not a cushion kind of girl

Few non-round diamond are cut to be particularly bright (comparable with the fairly high standards observed for rounds), few of those tend to have long-ish outlines - so it may be the case that in the end something gotta give.

I would try Jonathan's new company for sure. Great time to be among the first customers [best of times, methinks !] - should the right diamond be in stock; the too large, too expensive ring mentioned out of a recent private sale, is testimony of their standards.

P.s.

- it seems that I need to explain the unusual 46% deep oval: it may stand a chance if she is particulary fond of rose cut diamonds - like yours truly, else it is as startling as the reactions on this thread prove. Combining diamonds of different character is a personal project & cut makes extreme variety possible among diamonds, unlike any other precious tone. Your project is very much the opposite - to get a WOW! out of traditional expectations, hence my stopping short of recommending the thing yesterday & today.

You might find that between the average ovals and pears and the expertly cut goods, there is also quite some spectacular difference !

The august vintage signature ovals will be 1.50:1 max.
Is she set on something modern? Just thinking a slightly more vintage halo style would potentially allow you to enlongate the look of the stone, bigger halo stones at the ends for example or extra detailing which would up the overall ratio?

A 1.5 ratio would be good. Longer is better, but we can play with the stones in the halo to increase the appearance of the elongation as you suggest.

This is a stressful process :(

The idea being you could get a better performing oval but still with the desired enlongated shape.

I feel for you, I have gone through difficulties with ovals; my problem being my expectations for performance were too high and had almost decided to go for a round brilliant/give up! However having now seen the new august vintage oval realised that this was going to give me what I wanted, my name is on the waiting list and I would recommend you have a look at his videos if you haven't already.

I watched the video... they are pretty amazing looking ovals

Those are really interesting designs, especially the green marquis looking ring

Yes it's a lovely ring, they have made a chubby marquise into a overall enlongated shape. I think you could get that look in a lot more of a subtle way though obviously they were happy to highlight the difference but I think it could be more subtle for the purposes of a more classic engagement ring!

I put in for an August Signature Oval. Let's hope these things are worth the wait.

About how long is the wait? I'm dying to see it. I may have to get one myself

When I emailed a week ago Jonathan said 30-60 days was the hope.

I know you've put in for an AVO but I thought I'd post this just in case. 1.50 ratio and looks like it'd be pretty fiery. The clarity is overkill but it looked like the nicest of the long ratios:

Thanks for the heads up on this one. I'm torn now between waiting to see how the AVOs stack up and pulling the trigger on some of these nice ovals.

I say, for 10 grand it might was well be amazing, schedule be damned, but other people have different ideas

Did he give you an idea of pricing? I ask because the AVCs (the ones up on Good Old Gold) are ~$9500+ for 1 carat colorless (E, F), VS clarity.

He has said they will be competively priced. Obviously you are really paying for the colour and clarity grade with the oval posted above.

Possibly, but just get some assurance, OP. It'd be a bummer to wait 2+ months only to find out that one that'd meets your wants leaves you with too little $ for a good setting.

That is a good suggestion. Thank you

Does elongation cause more bow tie? It seems to me that chubby ovals do not have as much bow tie effect than longer/elongated ovals. I am not a cutter or expert.
