Hi,

I've read a bunch of post and need your help. I'm a huge FAN of this setting: http://www.brilliantearth.com/Waverly-Diamond-Ring-(1/2-ct.-tw..)-White-Gold-BE1M64-1152690/?did=1674462&is_tab=1 but I understand we can get it cheaper from James Allen. Are the Halos from James Allen MADE around the center stone or are they pre made?

The ring should have the following properties:

1.5 - 1.75 Carat, VS2, Round, Very good or Ideal cut, I-G on color (Not a big deal)

MAX budget is $10k but the lower the better.

Thanks in advance.

Cannot speak for all James Allen halos, but mine was made for my center stone and it is not one of the expensive ones. I think this one was $670, but it's plain shank which is not what you're looking for. The identical pave shank version is I think http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/platinum-pave-halo-and-shank-diamond-engagement-ring-round-center-item-17442 which is 1275 in plat.

Also note that my prongs look huge in this macro photo but in real life they're completely invisible.

This one ($1800 in plat) is probably closest to what you posted with the pave undergallery. Note I do NOT prefer the head style of the brilliant earth ring that attaches the head to one small point on the shank- you risk tearing the entire head clean off the ring if you catch it on something. A gallery that joins the shank in the middle across a wider area or has shoulders is much more sturdy.

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/platinum-true-pave-halo-item-53019

Also note those diamonds on the gallery will wear down a wedding band. So choose carefully if that is a feature that's important to you (fine if it is, just be aware of what it entails).

I have three james allen rings (two e-rings and a band) and I've been very happy with them and their lifetime repair/warranty policy. Spend $25, send the rings in, they come back polished and looking like new with anything necessary fixed. Easy and I don't even have to take time out of my day, just schedule a fedex pickup. Their settings are a great value if you find one you like.

Hey Baearea,
I've tried clicking on the link but it says its an available item anymore so I can't see the ring. Can you insert it in the post?
I also have a JA halo ring (17305W14 and $960 in 14K white gold) James allen, BN and Adiamor all makes their settings to fit your center stone so your stone measurements should be exact if you want them to make it. I bought this one used and luckily I had a stone that fit almost exactly. It is beautiful, delicate, and the stones are very secure. Every time I have them inspected, my jeweler says everything is nice and tight. Oh and the stones are F-G in color if I remember correctly.
My first ring was from Adiamor. They have some gorgeous stuff too.
JA and Adiamor have similar pricing and quality. I think BN is a bit on the clunkier side. If you go with the style I just mentioned, you'll have give or take 9K to spend on your stone and that is awesome!

I'm in LOVE with your ring. I'm going to order today/tomorrow but can figure out the difference between the one you posted and http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/platinum-true-pave-halo-item-53019...

Do you know? Did you have to tell them anything in order to hide the prongs? Yours is TOO good to be true! Love it!

I 100% agree that the head on the BE one is going to be a PROBLEM! I think the biggest thing for me is going for the same style around the center diamond. Once I figure out the difference between the two you posted then I can move forward with ordering. The diamond I wanted is gone but let's figure out the setting first.

Hi,

The second ring you posted has a pave gallery and swoopy basket - mine is plain underneath. That's the price difference as well.

I didn't tell them to do anything with my prongs, I just ordered it as is - didn't even talk to anyone, just ordered on the website.

I didn't see a round in your budget and specifications. Are you open to smaller size or lower clarity? Say a 1.4 si1?

Thanks Neil! I was looking for something between 1.5-1.7 actually. I can stretch to $12k if that helps.

The stone Niel found actually scores a .8 HCA so that would be a pretty incredible stone, assuming we're going by the numbers.

Another option: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.52-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-127413

My option is a little over $10k but apparently JA offers a small discount when you're a pricescope member, so that would bring the cost down a tiny bit. Sku 127413 is also a .8 HCA.

Here are some other stones, but take a look at the setting and make sure they're meant to accommodate the larger stones. Anything that has to be custom designed will not be eligible for return. I just had to return a horrid JA halo that was 'customized' and I wouldn't recommend at ALL.

1.4 HCA: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.68-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-675584

1.0 HCA: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.70-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-634187

1.5 HCA: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.52-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-321855

The smaller stones that were recommended would have better light return, according to the HCA Tool.

I know what you were looking for. But I would not buy any of the 1.5ct stones JA had in your 10k budget. And this stone in a halo will be indiscernible from a 1.5 ct

No vendors do pricescope discounts anymore.

Thanks so much! I'm looking at all these options now! Here is the band I'm going with: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.50-carat-g-color-vs1-clarity-very-good-cut-sku-682886

That's a diamond, not a setting?

Sorry! Here is the ring: http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/halo/platinum-pave-halo-and-shank-diamond-engagement-ring-round-center-item-17442

I really want a bigger stone. I only want to purchase one ring and have the budget to get something nice. Nothing big and CLEAN in the $12k-13k range?

Also, I reached out via chat and James Allen can't tell me if that ring I want is custom or not.

I believe the previous poster is saying "customized" eg she asked them to make changes to an existing ring. You're not doing that, so I really wouldn't worry. My halo posted above is stock.

Thats a fairly steep stone and the numbers are not ideal. You are paying for carat you that will be hidden in depth. Twinning wisps can be eye clean, but there is a sizeable one under the table there. Who knows, it may still be eye clean but I would have their gemmologist assess it. TBH I wouldn't spend my money on that stone.

There are plenty of eye clean SI1s out there and if size is important to you (which I get the impression it is) I would definitely go to the SI range.

Here are some of my suggestions:
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.58-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-618082 $9,760

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.61-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-643725 $7,960 (strong blue flo brings the price down)

something a bit bigger
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.71-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-584233 $12,620

Good luck!
