Hi guys - thank u in advance :twirl:

Per the subject I'm looking for a diamond for my engagement ring and am feeling really overwhelmed trawling through the inventory at WF / JA and other online retailers... I'm looking for the best cut stone I can find ....happy to sacrifice clarity as long as it's eye clean (understand that's a subjective definition too) and go down to H colour ... Budget is around 20k usd.

As I said, researching over the past little while has made me even more confused and stuck in terms of making any sort of decision or even being able to short list any stones lol... Also I'm in Australia so wont be able to view it in person until after the decision is made, which is only adding to my feeling of indecision / being overwhelmed

I know there's a smart way to go about this (ie not just go to Tiffany and buy the branded ring, when there are gorgeous stones out there waiting to be found!) and am sure that the trusty PSers will be able to point me in the right direction..?

Thank you all in advance again!!!

With a budget that healthy, I personally would go for a WF ACA/expert selection stone.

From JA there will be options. GIA cut stones will need further work to ensure they have ideal light performance.

Beautiful stones.

Hi Dee23 :wavey:
It’s a very exciting time – try not to let it overwhelm you if possible (easier said than done I know).
Just a couple of things to make sure you factor into your budget so you don’t get caught out:
*The exchange rate – we’ve just taken a pounding in the last week and are sitting at around AUD0.69:1USD...
*You’ll want to check with customs about paying duty and gst to get the stone into the country (you don’t want to get a surprise call asking for more money before your stone will be released) – there are different associated costs for loose stones vs set and finished jewellery, so you may want to work out what fits your situation ahead of time as it may influence how you get the goods into the country.
*International bank wire fees or credit card fees (depending on your payment method) - your bank/card issuer will be able to tell you.
*Bank or credit card exchange rate - - you might be able to negotiate a better rate with your bank on the day if you speak to them in advance.
Regardless of whether you buy something from here or from overseas, with approx. AUD20k you should be able to get a pretty schmick stone.
Hope this helps

Pardon my lack of knowledge about verbiage in the industry but what do you mean by "GIA cut stones will need further work to ensure optimal light performance"? What kind of work are you referring too?

I feel your pain about searching for a diamond. I am completely overwhelmed and have probably half your budget :(. Best of luck to you.

I think he meant you have to narrow it down to only three stones and ask for the idealscope or ASET images.

I honestly would do VS2+ on a stone I was ordering from another country. So these would be my choices.

High end of budget:

Lower:

(I would also choose WF over JA because they have a vastly better selection of settings.)
