Hi experts,

I need some help evaluating some princess cut lab diamonds available online.

I'm looking for an eye clean, approx 2ct princess cut with no obvious color. I've read up on ideal table/depth/crown sizes etc, but it seems that these things aren't foolproof and they all depend on each other. That said, there seems to be general agreement that a table somewhere in the 65-71 range, depth of 71-76 (with table < depth), and crown ≥12% is more likely to produce the best results in terms of whatever the correct word is for sparkly.

I want 2 or 3 chevrons rather than 4 as I prefer the look of the chunkier reflections. Most online choices seem to be 4.

Armed with this, I've found the following (five - too many I know) options and would love to hear some feedback from people that actually know what they're talking about, because they all look very similar to me online. Unfortunately I can't inspect them in person. The price range is okay for me and if the more expensive stones will look better, then that's fine. I realize that VS1 is likely okay, but it just happens that the results are mostly VVS2s.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for your feedback. You are right that 1 and 5 are similar - I've just realized that 1, 4, and 5 are the same stone :lol-2:.

Apologies to all for overlooking this. I've asked the mods to remove 4/5.

I've also received the video for stone 2. So the updated list is:

I'm not sure why (and I'm no princess cut expert), but the second stone appeals to me the most.

Thanks for the input. I certainly like the price of the second stone the most :) It's VS1, but looks eye clean in the video to my layman's eye. It seems quote cheap compared with other princess' with similar specs I've seen, so I was worried that there is some obvious (to someone that knows about these things) problem with it.

That said, I'm pretty indifferent between the price of 1 and 2, just trying to work out if one is clearly better. I did note that the girdle on 1 is thick to very thick - is this an issue?

I hope it's not poor manners, but tagging some names that have been very helpful in other threads:

I am really bad at evaluating princess cuts because I just haven't trained my eye well enough on them. But I will say I really dislike option 3 because it looks dark and the facets don't look lively.

Between 1 and 2 it's hard for me to figure out a preference because of how different the video set-ups are.

I'd love to help, but I just don't know enough about princess cuts. Ask me about MRBs all day long!
Also, not rude at all to tag :) If it was a post I could offer an opinion on, I'd be happy to help.

#3.
But it is really hard to assess and compare because of different lighting conditions, video styles, and tilt.

Im going back and forth between 2 and 3 with the very limited data they are close.
Anything under 1.05 is consider square by the trade.
Some people have a problem with it before that and some people it does not bug them at all even if its over 1.05.

I'm not an expert at all, but I liked the patterns created with movement in 2 the most.

Hi All, just wanted to thank everyone for the advice.

FYI, I ended up purchasing number 3 (2 was sold by the time I was ready which made the choice easier). It arrived today and to my untrained eye, looks great. Will be having it set in the next few weeks.

Thanks again
