Please help me decide platinum or yellow gold DBTY

Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if I'm posting this to a right category, but I need some help.

I'm ordering a DBTY pendant from BGD with a 0.25 ct diamond, and I've been having a hard time choosing between platinum and 18K yellow gold.

I've heard platinum makes diamond pop and look whiter, and also my engagement/wedding rings are platinum as well, but I really like the look of yellow gold just as much as platinum... What would you do?

I took photos of myself wearing platinum (left) and yellow gold (right) necklaces that I have. I know it's hard to tell from a picture, but which one do you think looks better on my skin? When I asked this to my family and friends, half said platinum and the other half said gold so I'd like to hear more opinions here!

I looked at the pic before I read your post and instantly, Yellow gold jumped out as the perfect match for your skin tone! It just looks as tho it has a bigger impact on you and very timeless.... not that the plat wouldn't, but my eyes prefer the YG.

You can still have the bezel made in plat (or WG) which will still make the diamond pop.

You could ask Brian's team if they thought the diamond would look better bezeled in yellow or platinum. But I'd definitely do a yellow gold chain on you - looks luminous!

Ha, so funny! I like platinum (white metals) for people with dark hair..like myself! I absolutely would do platinum since your wedding set is platinum for this particular piece. I might get along necklace and earrings in yg sometime, but I want my staple diamond pieces to be in white metals personally. Of course, you can do any combination you prefer!

Thank you all very much for the advice, I've finally made up my mind to go with yellow gold!
I'll probably still consider getting a prong setting solitaire pendant in platinum (or maybe WG, I guess it has a brighter color than plat) in the future, but I'm so excited for this gold DBTY!
Getting bezel made in platinum is a great idea for diamond pieces! I've never thought about mixing metals, but I'd love to try that when I have a chance.

Hello again everyone!

I just received my necklace and I'd like to share some pics of it here!
The round diamond is 0.246 BG Signature H&A, Triple EX, I color, VS2.
It's very beautiful and I'm glad I got the YG! It's a great size too, I think.

I"m not sure if this has already been suggested as I haven't read all the replies but I would bezel the diamonds in PLAT and then get a YG chain. I bought a DBTY from Chrono I believe that was just like this and gave it to my MIL for her birthday and it is stunning! The diamonds pop and I like that the PLAT breaks up the 18k YG. Hope that helps

I think it all depends on the diamond's color. If you have a more colorless diamond, white gold or platinum looks great with it, but once you diamond exhibits more yellow, white gold or platinum seems to really show that yellow.

That's why I got an 18 kt. gold setting for my J color diamond. The diamond looks bright white no matter what against the yellowness of that gold!

Now if I had picked a white gold or platinum setting for my J color diamond, the yellow of the diamond would pop!
It's kinda like the same visual dilemma with lipstick. If you wear a faded pink color, your teeth look yellow, but if you wear red lipstick, your teeth will look whiter!

light pink lipstick = white gold or platinum
dark red lipstick = yellow gold

I hope this made sense.
