Hi everyone!

I am resetting my original e-ring into a solitaire until I decide long term what I want to do with it. I might end up wearing this solitaire for several years. Admittedly, these aren't the most glamorous or fancy solitaire settings by any stretch of the imagination, but it's what the current bling budget allows, and they all will fit the bill nicely. So, it now boils down to looks--which one do you prefer for a one carat round center stone? Pictures are below. Thank you for your vote, I really appreciate it! :)

My preferences are 4>3>1>2.

4 is low-profile and elegant. I prefer 4 prongs over 6, and I like that you can see some of the side of the diamond.
3 is also nice and low-set, just has a little more metal over the side of the stone than I prefer. (ETA: I do like how the prongs come together at the bottom of the basket in a way that the prongs on 4 don't.)
1 has the stone set too high for me, and I don't like how wide the basket is.
2 is also set too high for my tastes, and the band is too thick.

I like the pave detail on the basket. Do you mind sharing where you found this setting?

Of course I don't mind sharing, OC! :Up_to_something:  It's a Unique Settings of New York setting: http://www.uniquesettings.com/products/show/25330 I don't think they sell to the public, you have to get their settings through a jeweler. ID Jewelry gave me a very reasonable quote on that particular one. I believe Brian Gavin has access to them as well (Dreamer got her Unique setting through BGD).

Thank you Laila! I have a plain solitaire setting now but I am also contemplating whether I should switch to something with "subtle detail" and I think having pave on the prongs/basket is a good way to go.

Good luck with the reset!

Have you looked at some of the pre-owned settings on ebay? There are quite a few decent deals out there. I'm not liking any of them really, but if I had to chose I'd pick number 3.

But I'd price this one out, it's beautiful and probably similar in price to the ones you've listed: http://www.adwar.com/products/styles/23287L/view This one gets my vote.

Another option: http://www.adwar.com/products/styles/23173L/view

Hi Gypsy! Sorry, I really dislike bezel settings unfortunately. :(

I do really appreciate your advice on settings though--can you recommend any inexpensive 6 prong settings? Thanks!

I voted #1, my sequence is #1, 3, 4, 2

I actually love the classic tiffany 6 prong... but this doesn't quite look like it.

1 more than 3 because 1 looks more delicate? Might be the relative diamond sizes vs the prongs though. both are very pretty, but delicacy is in order for a nice solitaire IMO

Adwar doesn't have many interesting 6 prongs, but these four prong settings are nice, take a look.

http://www.adwar.com/products/styles/23265L/view I like this one a lot.

http://www.adwar.com/products/styles/21848L/view Surprise stone.

http://www.adwar.com/products/styles/23171L/view Needs a bench with excellent polishing skills but I like it.

http://www.adwar.com/products/styles/22934L/view The prongs need thinning but has some potential.

http://www.adwar.com/products/styles/22831L/view Diamonds in the basket.

http://www.adwar.com/products/styles/22555L/view Fine out if the 'sets' can be ordered without the band, I'm pretty sure they can be.

I have a spessartite set in the first setting, although it's yellow gold. I don't find it too high, since when I wear this ring, I wear it with a BGD diamond band, and sometimes a plain band. The bands fit well under the setting. Overall, I was satisfied with the value/quality of the setting, but the diamonds set along the basket/halo seem smaller IRL than they appear in the vendor photo.

MichaelE's (kind of dark)photo:

Sometimes an IRL perspective helps. It looks as though you have lots of good options!

I'd say a toss up between 1 and 4. I like the graceful curves of the number 1 basket better but number 4 is simpler which can be a plus.

The prongs on number 2 look too much like tweezers for my taste and number 3, while more graceful than 2 looks too similar to 2.

I like them in this order: 3, 4, 1, 2. I might like #1 the best if the prongs were set differently (at 12, 2, 4, 6... rather than 1, 3, 5, 7...)

I voted #3 because it's very classy, but #1 has something special about it...it depends if you want something that will be noticed or not! If this is what you want then go with #1, it will look great with a 1 carat stone.
