Please help me decide between these two settings!

Hi guys,

I've been lurking around for a while and have really appreciated all the great information this place has to offer.

We've been e-ring shopping (mostly online) and finally decided on a 1.43 ct cushion (6.83mm X 6.80mm) and now we're having a tough time deciding between these two settings. It seems like one day I like one and the other day I like the other! They are both so beautiful in different ways.

Any input, suggestions, or opinions are welcome! Or if you know of another similar style that you think will make my decision even more difficult please share.

David Klass will be making the rings for me so any recommendations on small alterations are an option as well!

This one is simple, elegant and beautiful. The stone would of course be colorless and the metal would be one tone (either white gold or platinum). I love double claw/prongs which David said could add to this design.



This one is so intricate with beautiful delicate details. I am still undecided whether to keep the diamonds on the sides or have a plain band.


The other thing I have been debating is whether to set the center stone rotated 45 degrees so that the corners point North, South, East, West just to make it a bit more unique and to take advantage of the fact that my cushion is almost a perfect square.

My thoughts (but the rings not for me...so grain of salt), both settings are lovely. What kind of cushion have you selected?
I picture an old stone in the second setting. Like an August Vintage Cushion or an Old Mine Cut Cushion. I dont picture an
X cushion in it or a newer type of cushion. I think the first setting lends itself more to a newer cushion.

I'm not usually about turning a stone (kite setting) but I would have DK CAD it up both ways and decide which look you like
better. To me, kite set is somewhat of modern twist and I'm not sure if it suits either of these settings. It would suit the
first one a little more than the second one. The second setting has a very feminine/romantic feel to me and just cant picture
it kite set...but again, have DK CAD it up for you.

Edit ...one other thing I forgot. I just dont see the first setting looking good with double claw prongs. The gallery separates then
comes back together to separate back into double claw prongs? David can probably CAD it for you but I think you lose something
in the setting by going double prong. However, your stone is certainly big enough to go double prong!

It's a cushion brilliant. And I completely agree with everything you said!! I am leaning heavily towards the first setting and just keeping it as is minus setting it in one tone. It is a beautiful ring and I don't need to complicate it too much. I think I have just had a little too much inspiration looking around at all of these lovely rings.
 
I agree, I would not put double claw prongs on the first setting. But I also agree that I think the first setting would be better with a modern cut cushion. I like it better than the James Allen option but that is just personal preference. All of the setting are beautiful, classic and elegant.
