Hi I am trying to decide between these two diamonds. I have seen the 1.5 and it was awesome and am waiting for the 1.52 to come in to view. They are from 2 different dealers so I will not be able to compare side by side. If anyone can shed some light on what they would go with that would be great. There is quite a price difference between the 2 and although I can afford both I would only want to pay that much more if I will be able to tell the difference. Thanks!!!

Diamond 1
Round
1.52 Carat
GIA
Triple EX
F color
Holloway score 3.3
$16,000 INCLUDING SETTING

Diamond 2
Round
1.50 Carat
GIA
Ex EX and Polish got a VG
F color
Holloway score 1.8
$16,600 THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE SETTING

You need to give us all the numbers: table, depth, crown angle, pav angle, diameter. What is the clarity?

Ok thanks, here are the specs

Both Diamonds are SI1 and I forgot to mention Diamond 1 had no florescent and Diamond 2 has faint florescent

Diamond 1 specs 1.52 carat

7.43-7.44 x 4.54
Crown 34.5 degrees
Pav 41.2 degrees
Depth 61.0%
Table 58%

Diamond 2 specs 1.50 carat

7.43-7.46 x 4.48
Crown 32.5 degrees
Pav 41.2 degrees
Depth 60.2%
Table 58%

Based on that do you think there will be a big difference. Thanks for helping!!

You are very welcome! I wish you could compare them side by side. I honestly would not go below 34 on a crown angle personally, but don't mind recommending a 33.5 or so with that pavilion angle. But 32.5 is just too low for me, personally. I don't like diamonds to have a flat crown. The first one has a good crown angle, but the pavilion angle is over 41. That CAN be okay, but we wouldn't be able to tell if it has leakage without seeing an idealscope image, and your jewelers may not have that. So each one has advantages and disadvantages.

This one will have to be determined by your eyes if there is no chance of getting idealscope images on them. I'll do a quick check on price, too.

It's still difficult to say which stone would be better without an Ideal scope image, can you get one? Neither of these stones have proportions that I consider ideal, but that doesn't mean that they aren't beautiful stones.

I'm not sure if they have that instrument but I will check, how do the prices seem. Diamond 1 is $16,000 CDN including tax and that includes a 19K solitaire setting. Diamond 2 is $16,600 CDN including tax plus a setting which will probably between $700 a $1000. Diamond 1 is definitely a large price savings of between $1300 and $1700, but I am big on quality and would be willing to pay extra if it would be worth it.

I am looking forward to seeing the diamond in person.

Here is a good comparison stone for you. It has good numbers and is priced at $14,500 credit card price. There are discounts for paying by wire and for being a PS member, so that would take it under $14k. So the one that is $16,600 with no setting is priced too high. (I think our dollars are about the same?)

(and anyone interested in that stone would have to find out if it is eyeclean, of course)

There are some that are $16k (less with the discounts), but this one has more desirable numbers than the two you posted, as far as I am concerned.

Wow thanks!! That is a good comparison. The only thing is that the prices I gave included tax and our tax rate is 12% which is what I would have to pay importing it from the US. Also the $16,000 price includes a setting, so I'd say I'm getting a reasonable deal. Although the one you are talking about is bigger!!

The other thing I wanted to ask about is that I noticed on the GIA reports that Diamond 1 was graded by GIA 16 months ago where Diamond 2 was graded by GIA last month. Is this something to be concerned about. Why has Diamond 1 been sitting around so long or is that normal?

Thanks!!

Diamonds may sit at a local jeweler a lot longer than they stay with an online vendor that does higher volume, so 16 months is really not old. I imagine they sell a lot of rings that are less than $16k! But yes, that is a decent price if it includes the tax and setting. I'd lean toward #1 as long as you think it is bright and sparkly and cannot detect leakage (dead spots).

Great thanks for your help. I will be seeing it next week so hopefully it's nice!!
