So far, I am really liking these stones. Can anyone provide some additional insight on these? One has a strong blue fluorescence, and has a faint fluorescence. I will admit, I am intrigued by this phenomenon, and love the thought of buying her something unique...

Well, I can tell you what I like and what I dont like (take it or leave it :cheeky: ).

This one is ok...not really liking the faceting pattern.

I like this one. I would ask for an ASET on this one.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Marquise-Diamond-1340323.asp

Not really liking the inclusions on this one.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Marquise-Diamond-1373181.asp

This stone has a really different look to it. I'm not big on it but you/others might
like it.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Marquise-Diamond-1340319.asp

Inclusions are too bad on this.
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Marquise-Diamond-1340359.asp

Prongs may hide inclusions on this one but it does look like it has a lot of leakage. I would
ask for an ASET for this stone.

Hey guys, I'm also curious what you think of this .47 carat diamond from UnionDiamond. It's GIA cert. Also, the saleswoman sent me a very magnified pic of the stone. See below...

I like this one! Can you get an aset? I dont think UNION does those but its worth asking. The faceting
pattern is nice on this one. Its also longer than most of the ones you are looking at.

EDIT - ask her how eye-clean it is? How do the inclusions look? Is it a nice bright stone?

Thank you! Here's the exact e-mail I got from her...

"Ok… so I have a clear definitive and ultimate favorite. Please bear with me. I know that it is a little more expensive than the other stone, but there is definitely a reason. It’s super super white, the cut is awesome! (It’s very difficult to get a Marquis with a Very Good cut grade from GIA) and it’s eye clean. I mean take a look at the picture. The wire price is $617 and the regular price is $635. If this is too high, I totally get it – but this is the point at which we wouldn’t have to sacrifice color or clarity without decreasing size. The stock number is AE0040699."

I just e-mailed her regarding an ASET. She'll be out of the office until Tuesday. I'll post back then. I'd LOVE more feedback on that stone, if anyone else would like the chime in! :wavey:

What she said definitly sounds good...I like the faceting pattern in it and I dont see any really evil inclusion and you
are not having to dip down into the I/J for color (marquise show more color than rounds especially in the tips).

This stone reminds me a little of my pear but in a marquise shape.

If you buy it are you planning on Union mountig it or having it sent to you? I'm pretty sure they have a decent return policy (30 days)
if for some reason you didnt like it you could send it back (but expense to send it back will eat into your budget).

This one is my favorite so far. Hopefully you can get some more feedback...a lot of people dont like to comment on
marquise (fancy cuts). An aset image would be really nice.

I am planning on having Union mount it (if I actually buy it). They have nice rings, and there is one in particular that I really like....

It looks beautiful--very white and little to no bowtie.

That setting is very pretty and will make a lovely setting for a marquise.

Any last minute opinions on that diamond I posted the pic of, the setting, OR the stone/setting combo? Please?

I'll probably be pulling the trigger in the near future...

Yep, it happens. Was the stone put on hold for you and did they tell you how much time you had to decide? I think
most places only give you 2 or 3 days to have a stone on hold.

It was never actually put on hold. I showed interest, but that was it.

I can't help but think someone trolling this site saw it and snatched it up. :angryfire:

Thanks! That looks like a nice stone but it really is over budget. Especially considering the ring prices on Union are *much* better than James Allen's rings. :(

some of the ones you posted look a little dark..hard to tell if that is the photography or aspects of the stone. I would eliminate the I1

You can see if Union can get that other stone. It looks really nice.

I wasn't aware that you could possibly get stones listed on one site through someone else. Good to know. :)

Regardless, that price stretches me *very* thin. :(

Nevermind, I was just told by a James Allen rep that both stones are gone. Sheesh!

I know I've become quite the pain, here, and I apologize for the multiple posts. I would like your opinion on how this diamond sounds? I know Blue Nile doesn't have pics, and yes that does concern me. I cannot find anything interesting, however.

Eric,
Unfortunatly you can not pick marquise by the numbers. You must be able to see pics of the stone (or see in person).
There is just to varied a look with marquise and most of them are ugly. On top of that, this stone is an SI2 so you are
asking for double trouble. Bluenile can be good for round stones that you can buy by the numbers that are VS2 or higher
but NOT good for fancy cut stones like marquise. :((

Re: Please help me critique a diamond. I'm SO green at this!

As a point of clarification I am confused about the Union rep saying the marquise got a "very good" cut grade form GIA. GIA does not offer cut grades on fancy shapes, so that is misleading information.

Eric,
Just saw this while on ebay. It looks to be a pretty stone...ungraded but looks nice. Would need to have it put
in a new mounting (this one is mangled) and doesnt protect the pointed ends.

I saw that yesterday or the day before. I was actually going to post a link here for input. Hmmmmmmm....
